Who thinks we should bring back the Vagabond?

Poll

Should we bring back the Vagabond?

Yes - How could Vic drop this fantastic configuration?
No - MiniChamp for me
No - Smaller keychains are better
No - Don't carry a Vic (eg Micra/Squirt for me!)
Couldn't care less !

Who thinks we should bring back the Vagabond?
on: May 26, 2018, 02:17:10 PM
Well a couple of things triggered this:
  • I managed to pick up a Vagabond recently on the Bay and realised what a great configuration it is
  • FB's recent acquisition and fascinating discovery
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,77218.0.html

I know some of you EDC and love the MiniChamp
I think it's great, but to be honest, it's a bit of a showpiece - The XAVT of the 58mm line....
And it certainly has some redundancy/useless tools   :pok:   :o   ..... all IMHO of course    ;)

Whereas the Vagabond - What a great slim model that is - with an amazing toolset
Another great potential benefit is you save another couple of mm by dropping the pen (and light)
- Unless of course you want those guys   :o

So what say you? - My fellow Knights   ???
One vote only - And when you have voted - You can see what y'awl think !

I carry my alox Vagabond with me every day, and for years now. It's a great little tool!

I suppose it is obvious that I voted YES!  :tu:

I love the MiniChamp and the Manager, but the Vagabond has exactly the tools that I want in a knife.  I'd like to see 4 variations of it:
1) Alox Vagabond
2) Vagabond w/tweezers and toothpick
3) Midnite Vagabond with LED and pen
4) Vagabond w/pen and choice of tweezers or toothpick

Edit: #3 is easy enough to modify by using a cellidor Vagabond and scales from a Midnite Manager as I did below.
So at minimum it would be nice to see an Alox and Cellidor.

While I like my Manager very much I like the idea of Vic celebrating some configurations from the past.  Bring back the scissored 84s while you're at it Vic.

I think Victorinox could make a "Manager Plus".  It would be a Manager with the added Cut & Pick/Scraper tool.  One extra thin tool that is still in production on the MiniChamp.
Making the "MP" a 5 tool knife.

Voted... Victorinox should bring back the Vagabond in the exact tool layout as they did for +B...

Throwing a curve ball, why not introduce new tools like the awl/reamer and the eye-glass screwdriver... or how about a small pliers based tool like the LM Squirt...ahhh

And yes, 84mm scissors please...

I EDC a Vagabond.

My original unit was purchased in Feb 99. It was sold in a box labeled Manager.

Perfect tool set for me with 3D Phillips and s small straight blade and then work inspection involving cable connectors.

I lost that knife in 2015.  Looking for a replacement I learned it was actually a Vagabond variant.  My son gifted me a straight blade and a Phillips version at Christmas 2016, and the Phillips returned to my pocket since.

Yes a great tool set, including my orange peeler which I use frequently for prepping oranges
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I voted to bring it back but really anything more then a Manager is frivolous addition of tools in the 58mm. There's only one way to achieve more usefulness in a keychain size SAK and that's to bring back THE MOST USEFULL SAK EVER CREATED.  The Wenger Pocket tool chest!

I´ll never give up my coke spoons !  :D

Why carry a Vagabond if you can have a MiniChamp?
IMO the extra tools that the MiniChamp provides are fun and do not cost very much in terms of weight and dimensions.

Oh and the nailfile on the MC doesn´t have that dreadful SD tip that makes it awkward to use for cleaning your nails.

Let's see the Vagabond and the Pocket Tool chest back in production.  Both better toolsets than the Mini Champ.

I'm probably in the minority here but I prefer the "Mate" variant of the Vagabond. I think a proper nail cleaner tip fits a nail file better and a flat SD tip on the cap lifter instead of a Phillips makes for a nice little pry bar too.

Victorinox should!  :D
True TP - I did wonder about wording the Q that way - Then decided against it as MTo is the boss of all things multitool in the world !!    ;)

Nice idea FB - But they couldn't - As unfortunately it's an unmanufactureable SAK !!

The 58mms have only one spring type  - A single spring is used by most tools, two are used by the scissors and combi tool
The tools and springs are always paired back to back
The Manager Plus would need four springs on one side and three on another - So there would be a gap on one side !!

Hence  ..........   ta dah  ..........    The Vagabond  !!!     (or the Mate - Hey Shadowrider)

Vic these days seem more likely to withdraw rather than release new models and are always rationalising their product line
- So how about this?  ???

They withdraw the current MiniChamp - (shock horror) - And onlly the Midnight version is available.
The Vagabond  comes back with regular tp and tw
Both are available in Alox.

That way customers have a choice of either a fully loaded 58mm or a much slimmer version, but still with most of the tools.    :tu:

I'd stock up on the regular MiniChamps as they'd become desired due to scarcity, but I do like the idea.
Seems I have read quite a few comments about two of the tools not being used that often on the MC.
The Vagabond is an amazing toolset in my opinion.

Huntsman, do you think MTO store can do an Alox Vagabond run?

It would be great if these were offered.  It's only two tools fewer than the MiniChamp.  It lacks the cuticle pusher and ruler.

Well, the ruler is too small and the cuticle pusher too girly. I say we keep this one as is!
