My 17 foot boat is rated for 400lbs or 182kg.  Are you over that?  :D

Nice work Def!  I bet it's really satisfying to sand those patches down.  You're making me want to scour my local craigslist for "mechanic's special" boats!

As to your original question, I'd personally go with a nice bright cherry red gel coat.  I think the color under the oxidation on your boat is fantastic.

I've done a lot of sanding and resin work, and so far I am not seeing any reason to paint it.  The patches have smoothed out nicely and all of the cracks have been filled and sanded smooth.  I am giving serious thought to polishing it up as is and giving it a nice clear coat.  I think this boat has earned the right to display it's scars proudly, and fixing it up doesn't mean hiding it's past.  I think that wearing it's scars openly and cleanly allows the boat to maintain it's character.

And yes, it also preserves it's pink color.  :D

Fortunately not, but I'm sure that's what the boat can carry....no the rating for missing a step and a foot going through a thin wall

Well there's your problem... not many people spend a lot of time going for a walk in a kayak.  Usually you just sit down....

I was somewhere in my early 20's and the son of colleague and friend of my dad occasionally went fishing with us, he was gifted a small fiber glass row boat.....actually cause for much excitement.

He fixed up the boat a bit and the day arrived that we loaded it on the back of my half-tonne pickup.....set for some fishing.

Everything went well until I tried to get in.  the moment I put weight on my foot in the boat there was a cracking noise......and that was that for the boat  :salute:

Have to qualify, too much time in the African sun destroys most things...

I use this formula called 303 aerospace protectant,  I called the company last year and confirmed that they only make one type of protectant but put the stuff into different types of bottles for various applications.  I swear by this stuff, it is basically sun protection for my Kayak.  I wipe it on once in a great while and my kayak still looks brand new after 15 years in the sun. Last time I got it on Amazon under the auto application name, 15 years ago when I purchased my kayak it was only available at the marine stores 4x the price.
