I have handled or owned at least 100 different multitools from more than a dozen brands, and to me the Rebar is in the TOP 5 podium,
after more than 25 models I am confident that the Micra and Rebar are the two best and best value (bang for your buck) models that Leatherman makes :multi:

Oftentimes I replace my pirit by a Rebar on my belt, and never ever have I been let down.  ;)
It just works, it is pocketable, tough, well built and cleverly designed. An excellent do it all, jack of all trades multitool, affordable and time proven.

The main drawback to me (lack of Scissors) is naturally and easily overcome by pairing a Micra

Agreed. You could pay full price for both a Leatherman Rebar and a Micra for the scissors, and after spending that $85, you'd  have more functionality and a cost savings over the Wave, but with cost and weight savings over the Surge. Even better if you get Rebar and Micra used for a lower price. A little tool overlap, sure, but also you'd have some of the lesser used Leatherman components like tweezers and nail file.

I carry Rebar on my belt and a Micra on my keys, and seldom need anything else. I still carry a Swiss Army Knive because I always have, and they are useful too. You could easily ditch the Micra and get a Super Tinker to the same effect.

I just say try it out for you and if you don't like it sell it, it will probably be a few dollars lost and a lot of knowledge gained at worst,
or you'll fall in love like I and others did and it will become a cornerstone of your EDC  :salute:

(Image removed from quote.)

I even sold my ST300 as the Rebar did everything than the ST but was friendlier to the pocket, the wallet and the EDC system.
Very very well written write up! Bravo  :salute:

I have carried a Rebar for a while and have to say it's rusty but trusty. The rebar is a tool that has never let me down. Lockup on the tools is excellent even after heavy use. If I was to pick any multi from my collection for a survival situation I would pick the Rebar 10/10. Everything you need and nothing you don't. I pair it with my Spyderco Dragonfly for EDC. I like having a lightweight blade for small tasks and the Rebar blade for my beater knife.

Thanks every one for all the great input.  I was hoping more people would be diong the challenge with me.  Would it be better if it was set to start in August instead of July?  So far it looks to be a very short list of participants.

ever since I saw this tool, everytime I read "Rebar", in my mind sounds (song rhythm):

"Rebar,
Take it eeeeeaaaasy,
For there is nothing that we can do,

Rebar, Rebar...

..."

and since that song is inside my mind and the name of the tool does never fail to trigger it,  :ahhh
I just take it easy.  :tu:

So i have a love/hate relationship with this Leatherman,  :)
and in that way I understood my particular kind of "Rebar love"  ::)

Will join for the commentary for sure,  ;)
and maybe with the challenge  ???

It is an special tool for me (came from a member here, and is engraved with the "Mt.org", furthermore tomorrow I will hopefully meet Tim Leatherman again after 4 years and this Rebar is the tool I will bring to have signed, to make it triple special  :ahhh

so if I get to have it signed it will remain cherished and possibly less carried   :dd:  I have too many other tools that will do the job and are not special in any particular way

I'll be watching along with the rest.  :tu:

The Rebar may just be my favorite multitool. Doing a Rebar challenge helped solidify that sentiment for sure.

I'd join in, but I have other fish to fry....so to speak.

Y'all have fun!

Never mind, I'll just go ahead then...

Day 1

Before we start, a word of warning... my Rebar is not standard. I've been assured this is no problem though.

I liked the Rebar's compact form factor, the pliers' exchangeable cutters and the blades so much that I decided to use it as a basis for my mod, which resulted in the Rebar VX. To increase versatility I've added a regular and jeweler's bit driver and scissors, as well as a file, as found on the Wave, instead of the fixed Phillips and medium drivers, the lanyard ring, a washer and the original file. More on this in these posts:
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74592.msg1582735.html#msg1582735
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74592.msg1598021.html#msg1598021
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74592.msg1602330.html#msg1602330

The file mod was inspired by SteveC: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74592.msg1583248.html#msg1583248

Now, why did I do this mod? Why not simply buy a Wave?
The answer lies in the desire to have the Wave tool set inside a Leatherman that is compatible with urban street-legal use hereabouts, where OHO is frowned upon by the law. Enter the Rebar VX. This also constitutes a powerful illustration of just how flexible the Leatherman tool system is in general, and possibly an incentive for a few mods by others on the forum.
BTW - I also have a Wave and a ReWaveR (for the latter see https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74592.msg1609173.html#msg1609173).
