Day 29 - penultimate day

Pirates of the Caribbean - Part 6: Revenge of the Crawly Bits

Just kidding. Rebar VX shares a spot in the morning sun with my SOG Power Access Deluxe, which has recently joined the ranks of MTs in which, like in the VX, the stock file has been upgraded. As you may recall the Rebar file was replaced with a spare diamond file from a Wave.

My Rebar did some work on the cloaths dryer and cut my arm band off from the reunion.  The blade works great but I miss having scissors.  My Vic's have me really spoiled.

Can you at least throw a Classic in your pocket for scissor needs?
Although, I appreciate you making do with the blades!

Scissors are nice.  :tu:

They sure ain't 91/93mm SAK or Surge scissors(my favorites), but they are fine for most of my little-scissor needs.  :)

Anyway, great pics all around again :tu:

Back to the pork loin Douglas, well spotted - I thought the bacon would camouflage it well enough. 21 minutes on the Weber Q300 at full blast, turn once. It came with oven baked potatoes with feta cheese and herbs and a lettuce salad with avocados, sundried tomatoes and a special dressing. It was a nice balmy night. That is the good news. The bad news is that I read your post too late and didn't save up any for you - and we couldn't resist, it was simply too delicious lo leave anything for the next day or so...  :-\

Day 30 - Challenge Completion Post

I have decided to end this challenge with a final mod report on the Rebar VX.

Remember my slight complaint on Day 11 (see also here)? I've followed up on george1's advice (thanks again :tu:) and sourced a few Fuse pivots from our man in Russia. Only late yesterday night I came around to do the install, which went very smoothly (used a 4mm Allen key to push out the old pivot, then inserted the old pivot from the other side while wriggling and abutting the Allen key until this fell out, and then inserted the new pivot from the now vacated side, all of this to avoid having to realign the tools and all the washers inbetween. This worked fine).

In the shot below you'll not see the results, but trust me  >:D. I have added a spare Fuse pivot and the old Rebar pivot for comparison. According to our man in Russia (see his reference table below) the Fuse pivot is 14.1 mm between heads (when fully screwed on) compared with the about 13.1 mm I measure for the Rebar - this mm extra managed to make the pivot's flat sides fully engage the complementary surfaces of the handle holes, even despite the wider tools, so I'm happy  :ahhh  :D

loki-mobile's reference table

This ends the challenge for me - but I'm going to be checking in regularly with you guys to, ahem, monitor progress  :D and to cheer you on should this unexpectedly prove necessary  :like: :like: :like: Thanks to all participants for joining in and the others for the cheers  - this was fun  :drink:

Other loose threads from this thread (pun intentional  :D):
Bent watch spring pin, see Day 7: on GLBM's advice I have bought a set of assorted spring pins of uncertain origin (probably Chinese) and replaced the bent-and-repaired one with a new one. For good measure, I also did the other one as the remaining original pin looked a bit iffy as well. Despite the uncertain origins and to my mind incredibly low price (€5 with shipping, anyone?) these pins seem very solid indeed and the watch has been sitting on my arm unscathed since I did the swap (at least during daytime). No pics of the swap, alas.

Thanks to the G-man I'm right behind you and share in your sentiment of thanks to everyone for sticking with us through a realy rough start.
My  :hatsoff: to all.

DAY 20
So to be honest this has been my go to when I've NEEDED scissors.  The all so compact but mighty COMPACT.  It really makes a great little companion to the Rebar. Especially with the pocket clip and pull tab.

Hope we don't need any more PSA's

Nice one with the compact. That is one of the SAKs I really need to get! Seems like it would definitely complement the Rebar quite well. :)

Nice photos as well, Douglas! :like:

Rebar carried along with a Compact makes total sense.

Truth is, except for challenges, I never carry a pliers-based multitool like the Rebar without also carrying a pocket knife of some kind. Sure the blade on a multitool can be as useful as any knife blade, but it usually easier and less dramatic to pull out a pocket knife to take care of those little things we all use a knife for during the course of the day.

And that pocket knife might not be anything more than a Classic. Right there I've got a handy cutter and some fine scissors. Although lately I've been leaning toward a Wenger Esquire or Vic Ambassador.

But a Compact?

Oh, heck yes!

The Compact rely is quite the little power house and with this clip/ pull it just disapears in the corner of the pocket but it's allways ready for action with a quick pull of the "pull".  It will even get you off the "hook" when you got out of the house without your pen.
