Texas Instrument Ti-84 Plus CE Steal of a Deal.
on: June 12, 2018, 12:56:06 AM
I went into Staples for something I wanted. As I looked around, I spied a graphing calculator in the clearance aisle. I can't believe I put it down the first time to look for what I went there to find in the first place. I wasn't happy with what I was looking for, but that calculator was a calling me. I just couldn't believe the price. I thought to myself there must be a reason why it was going for so cheap. I took an example and found where the rest of the calculators resided in the store. I did a double take as I spied two other Ti-84 Plus CE calculators in different colours. Beneath those was a price of 182 Canadian dollars each! I looked at the clearance calculator and it was the same but just in a different colour. I decided to take one even though I really didn't need it. 50 dollars was a steal. At the cash, the lady also took another 25% off because it was on clearance, thus my take away price with tax was $42.35 Canadian.  :ahhh

So if anyone is in Canada and need a somewhat top end colour graphing calculator, I would strongly suggest you get yourself right quick to a local Staples to see if they are giving these away.  :gimme:

No thanks. I remember paying a fortune for a Radio Shack EC 4034 when in High School senior year. Then I upgraded to a Texas Instrument Ti-83 when in University. I gave both away to a friend's son who needed them more than I did at the time.

I just  couldn't resist the price on this one.

Like 95% of the time I go to a Staples is for clearance shopping. I have a thing or writing instruments and utensils, and have found some crazy deals at Staples from time to time  :tu:

I would have thought these kinds of things, while very cool, would have been replaced by a smartphone app these days.  A quick search shows multiple emulators in the Play Store, such as this one:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Revsoft.Wabbitemu

Still very cool, and for that price I'd have had a heck of a time passing it up too!

Grant, these are allowed in many tests where cell phones are not.  :salute:

Take a look at Photomath. An app that allows you to solve problems by simply taking a scan of it. This is partly the reason why cell phones aren't allowed in exams/tests, etc.

These types of calculators will always have a place in education.

I never thought that secretly texting someone for a solution could seem old fashioned. There’s an app for everything!

I suppose that makes sense... although I haven't had to worry about test taking since the days where these graphing calculators were cutting edge and prohibitively expensive.  You could go to college or you could buy a calculator.... :P

I have a cute cheap scientific casio (not graphing! I haven’t quite reached that level of higher education yet to require one) but I recently misplaced it somewhere.
