SAKs & Coins
on: June 08, 2018, 09:29:49 AM
I am a coin collector. It started with my father's modest collection, which I keep expanding.
There are so many countries with beautiful coins. So whether you are a collector, or your pocket just jingles when you walk, let's see some coins!  :like:

Henriette is the calibre of forum member we need to attract here - so eloquent. I just bought 25 years worth of Smurfpills from her.  :tu:

my brother's collection!  :2tu:

...I'll have to broach it with some sensitivity though, if I ask to see his collection then whip out a camera and start taking pics, he's going to get very suspicious!!!  :ahhh

My hometown Den Bosch is the capital of the province of Noord Brabant.

In 1996 the Brabantse Poffer was coined to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of the province.
In 1985 we had the Bosch Gerritje to celebrate 800 years since we gained city privileges.

And that´s my entire coin collection.  :D

That massive half dollar is wonderful!  :o
Do you have any information on it? I have been looking around but only the smaller shows up.

What a great thread idea, two of my interests into one cool place.

Here I’d like to showcase three rare pieces in my collections...of course the SAK is my EDC at the moment. The two coins never see the light of day :)

1. Robert Lessard modded SAK, AKA Copperhead
2. Rare 1948 Canadian Silver Dollar in AU-55, Almost uncirculated...I grade myself as MS-63, Mint State with only bank bag scratches, never circulated
3. 1867-1967 commemorative solid gold $100 Dollar coin.

I have a half dollar, a gold 20 dollar and a 1 cent coin like this, all 3 with the same size.
They're "fake" souvenir coins. I got them about 20 years ago during a trip to the US... I think it was at the empire state building's souvenir store but I could be wrong... I must've been 12 or so... I'll bring all 3 out when I'm home so I can show you :D

Edit: just found them on famous selling websites. I just Google "jumbo half-dollar"... I've found others too.

I was afraid of that. No way those were legal tender, you'd need a sack truck to carry them around. Still, I'd buy one if I found them in a store.

Also,  :mail:
Got a hefty package today, spent the whole day sorting them out. Quite a few I am excited to post. So many colors, so many shapes.
I am still waiting for binder pages with large pockets, because some coins are as big as coasters.

Not a great picture, and I'm reluctant to clean them, 1967 Canadian coins celebrating our centennial, uncirculated but not properly protected

Here's half my coin collection - I have 2!
It's a 10 euro "Little Prince" coin which I got in a French post office. In the same town I found this Camo Fun Forester in a shop window.

Let me know if this bothers you in any way.

I have been seriously collecting coins for most of my life. I belong to several numismatic associations/clubs. So that’s my back ground. Here we go; the words “clean” and “coins” shall never be in the same sentence, except when saying... never clean a coin since it will loose more then 2/3rd of its value. Usually, when I give an opinion, I always end my comment with “my two cents worth”. Well in this case I am an expert in numismatics, so I’ll repeat; leave your 1967 Silver alone.

I am very glad that you are “reluctant”. Very nice set by the way.
