Tools for SAK mods?
on: June 08, 2018, 03:20:38 PM
Hey guys. What are some of the simple tools and materials I would need to build a few custom SAKS for myself here and there? Nothing fancy but nothing cheap enough where it makes the job more difficult. Thank you!

Basic toolkit would include a drill with 2.2, 2.5 and 3mm HSS bits, some metal files, centre punch and something (maybe a nail) to punch pins out, 4oz or so ball peen hammer and a surface to peen on. This can be as simple as the flat surface of a hammer, a vice with a small anvil on it or an anvil.

That should get you started  :tu:

If I buy a few Saks and use existing parts, do I need to drill anything? I've got plenty of drill bits but thought it would be as simple as assembling parts and pinning together. And I would need pins and the rings that you attach the scales to as well, correct?

The pins need to be drilled out in order to dismantle the SAK - If you're removing layers you can use the existing pins (and rings) but if you're increasing the layers you'll need some new pin stock.

Have a look at the SAK modding sticky: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,43303.0.html

Lots of great info and pics.  :salute:

Don’t forget a small bench vise... I use it to secure saks for drilling, peening and putting on scales... also comes in handy for when I need to do some filing... I also use it as a base for my lansky sharpeners...
