Ok, so here I go with my first SAK mod
on: June 08, 2018, 05:14:03 PM
Ok, so here I go with my first SAK mod.

I love my Compact but was missing a Philips driver. Then I figured that 3 layer max. is ok for watch pocket carry so got me a Climber.
The Can-opener is a good enough Phillips driver for my needs.

That was fine for a while until lately where the need of a magnifying glass comes up more often (yeah....)

So I've got the idea of adding the Mag./Philips layer to it. Perfect.

Searching the web for smallest cheapest SAK with the Mag./Philips layer for a potential donor I realised that my idea is is not new.
The Yeoman.... why was that model discontinued again?

Anyhow, I've found this 14€ 90s Explorer on eBay as donor. Blades had bent tips, the small blade quite a lot. And one outer liner was bent... looks like the awl had been over torqued.

Took it apart, extracted the Mag./Philips layer,  repaired the blades and liner, and put it back together as a Climber Plus for our daughter.

Oh the joy of figuring out how to assemble the scissors layer...

Feeling more confident now I went on with the disassembly of my Compact...

...and layed out the following plan...

I realised that successful peening relies on a lot things like weather, caffeine level...  :D

Anyhow, I've got it done eventually.
Here's my.... Yeo... something?

What do you guys think should I call it now?

Yeomatt?

End result of the Explorer/Compact tool exchange...

Thanks for reading.... or just browsing the pics and for any comment!

And especially thanks to Magentus, Pablo, Mechy, Lynn and all others for their very helpful threads, posts and comments

Matt

Good work! Phillips in central position is definitely better than originally.

I was also thinking of having the magnifier better protected being right beside the blade, and not at the outer side  :tu:

Nicely done Matt, it seems like a yeoman is a good first build and a really good useful one as well.
