What are the best aftermarket scale options?
on: June 19, 2018, 08:09:39 PM
I have been carrying my Super Tinker for a little while now, really loving the tool set, but the basic red plastic scales are a bit boring when I am used to my lovely alox SAKs. I have been considering getting  fancy aftermarket scales for this thing and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for them. I see Swiss Bianco has some cool looking titanium scales for sale on eBay. How well do those things stay on? Do they require glue, and can they be removed and reused on another SAK?

I have a set of Ti scales coming from a gentleman in Poland that makes custom scales. The USPS here in Texas seems to like screwing with me. The package cleared customs in New York and now it is bouncing back and forth between Austin and a small town about 50 miles from me with a very similar zip code. I had to call that P.O. this morning to get it straightened out. They should be here tomorrow. I work out of town and will not have them in hand until Friday afternoon.
Anyway, his scales press fit like the red stock scales. I had a Tinker with Swiss Bianco Cu scales that I installed myself. They required epoxy. For the price, I was disappointed. I sold that SAK.
The maker of these Ti scales has an Instagram page and makes other scales and the "Tactical Fish" bottle openers. This opener is made with amazing quality. Can't wait for the scales. I will post a photo when I get them installed. My only problem is whether to put them on a Tinker or Super Tinker.

There is also another gentleman on Instagram that make 3D printed scales. They are also press fit and hold up very well. Very inexpensive as well. these are two of my SAKs.

Hey Hi-up, this is completely off topic from where this thread started, but your screen name distracted me! Are you a lineman here in Texas? I just finished lineman school and I also live in Texas, still searching for work in the field. How long have you been doing it and whats it like?

My title is still Lineman. I am actually a crew leader and still see bucket time occasionally.
95% of the time I'm on the ground watching the younger lineman work. The "Hi-up" part comes from the fact that I used to run a 125' and 197' bucket(s). I have been working rebuilding transmission lines for the past 18 years. I love my job and like coming to work MOST days. The days when it is over 100* sucks though.

That conversation continued in PMs. Back to topic here!

Thanks for the heads up about disliking the Swiss Bianco scales and them needing epoxy. I was tempted to order those, but I think I wont now. They were kind of overpriced anyway. Haven't seen anything else besides those so far that catches my fancy more than the standard SAK scales.

Just curious, how did you actually order these? A glance at his blog and IG photos shows him not even replying to questions about ordering.
