I have consulted the leading written authority on U-boats. The only information I could find regarding interior decoration are oblique references that it should be resistant to bilge water (at a minimum dirty, if not outright contaminated with battery acid, oil, grease or fungi), vomit, high pressure salt water jets, impacts associated with running aground, and violent explosions of uncertain origin. Should be easy enough.

A note on U Boat decor:

I'm aiming for a 'Space is deep, multidimensional warping Cthulhu' feel to counteract the lack of room on the Boat. Instead of looking at a cramped interior, I want it to feel like you do when the air-lock is opened and you whizz out into the endless, eternal cosmos and while you're trying to take the enormity of the universe in, your brain snaps.

My brother served on a submarine for a spell. He said it was.....tolerable. But mostly because one stays busy enough that there isn't time to notice how much it sucks.
