What do you collect?

Asking this in the Swiss Army Knights Forum, the Obvious answer is: "Swiss Army Knives!". So obviously that's not the answer i'm looking for. I know that a lot of collectors have certain "themes" or preferences in what they collect. Some collect alox, some collect discontinued models, others collect military issued models and some collect SAKs with their original boxes.

So, what do you collect?

To answer my own question, I do have a couple of themes in my collection.

First of all there's the 108mm collection, which is nearing completion, with just a few (but rare) models to go (the genuine stag hunter and NATO trooper will complete the main 108mm collection, but there are also still a couple of "unofficial" obscure models made by SwissBianco). A Fireman is on the way as we speak.



Then there's the collection of SAKs with US government/military/presidential emblems. Still growing as there are still a lot of different models I don't have.





As a Dutchman I also need to have the different models of Dutch Army issued knives. I once had a complete collection of all the Victorinox DAK soldiers (1983-1992) but I sold those and kept only 1 of each type (only KL83 and KM87).



Last but not least I collect models that were issued to the Swiss Army (mainly 111mm).



In the past I used to collect the 111mm military issued models from all over the world, but that became too expensive. So I decided to focus on Swiss issues only, sold most the others and used the money to focus on the other parts of the collection.

Also in the past I used to collect the old Wenger models (like the Director, PocketGrip, Matterhorn Plus etc etc), but I quit collecting those as well.

I prefer to collect:

- discontinued or at least highly desireable
- any SAKs offered to me for a bargain.

I try to combine those 2 and I think I've done that pretty good so far.

An 84mm Gourmet from 1938 is waiting for me for pickup right now for the price of €50
(Exposed rivet SAK, which will finaly be me first one like it)
Even though this isn't cheap, it's still well below the market value.

Like most collectors, I “collect what I like.” More specifically, I focus on knives with tool combinations that I find to be especially efficient, useful, or unique:

All of the VSAKCS knives that were never made as standard production models.



Orange versions of my favorite Alox models.



Silver 93mm Alox with modern shields (still need a First Mate).



A smattering of Soldiers and OCs.



And my current interest, minimalist models w/ combo tools. I *need* a 91mm Waiter, and I’m still trying to decide whether the Scientist belongs in this group or not.

I collect the following stuff:
- tools I like
- tools that are rare
- If I can get a good deal

I collect Vic, Wenger, LM, Gerber, Sog, Schrade etc.
I like Wenger the most - especially the blackout series, the titanium line, the left handed knives and the softtouch series.

I collect Vic, Wenger, LM, Gerber, Sog, Schrade etc.
I like Wenger the most - especially the blackout series, the titanium line, the left handed knives and the softtouch series.
