that's impressive
It looks every bit up to the job !
I think that the 13 won
Now do it with a No.1!
wow that watermelon got axed in one cleaving it also looks like the Opinel has the fruit for a blade instead of a steel one
They used to be made, right?
Quote from: Don Pablo on July 09, 2018, 10:58:41 PMThey used to be made, right?Yes, here is some info from Opinel's site:Joseph Opinel had the idea of making his knife into different sizes which would be suitable to different hand sizes or used for various tasks. So, in 1897, he developed 12 different sizes numbered from 1 to 12. The smallest knife, named No. 1, included a ring so that it could be attached to the chain of a pocket watch. Its manufacture as well as No. 11’s was stopped in 1935. Nowadays, the smallest Opinel, No. 2, has a 3.5-cm blade and the largest knife, No. 12, a 12-cm blade. In the 70s, a giant knife was produced in small volumes as a promotional item to be used in shop windows. The retailers were rapidly asking Opinel to produce larger quantities due to requests from private individuals! The blade of the giant No. 13 is 22 cm long making the knife 50 cm long when fully open.
Thanks for the history. I hereby retract my statement about cutting a watermelon with a No.1.You may use a No.2 instead.
Cool! I like my #12 Opinels but this sword is incredible...
Certainly gives the 13 reference of size. Kinda cool how large of an Opinel it is. I had a 6 and now an 8 and that 13 looks more "sword" than folder
Just posted this on the Wood Wednesday thread but thought I'd put it over here as well. A #13 giving birth to a #2.
