Victorinox Pioneer Red Rare?
on: July 10, 2018, 01:34:36 PM
I am Going over some duplicates in my collection i am about to sell and while researching prices on ebay by browsing ended auctions i just could not find the pioneer i have either listed for sale or under ended listings.

It is just a new cross red pioneer, but not limited like the current year issue, neither is it old cross. Those it seems to be plenty of for everybody.

Not expecting to be sitting on a fortune here, but i thought it was an interesting observation nonetheless.

Could it be that most of what has been sold of new cross pioneers are silver?

The vast majority of recent Pioneers will have been silver, but red with the new shield was a standard option in the US (and maybe South Africa and other markets too).  A little more info here: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,18265.0.html

I remember red pioneers and farmers being common when I first started buying SAKs, 2007 to 2009 ish. REI was selling blue, red, and silver alox Farmers for something like $16 at the time, for a short while. Nowadays, they're certainly rarer than a decade ago, but  I can't comment by how much.

If I may pose a related question, what about the black pioneer with with red (new) cross? How rare is that item?

A red pioneer is much rarer in this part of the woods... A Black pioneer with red shield can still be bought NIB through our local dealer...
