Camera Adapter for Leatherman
on: July 11, 2018, 07:40:35 AM
Am looking for ideas on adding a screw-type camera camera adapter for a Leatherman, as it seems I'm always forgetting to bring a tripod, when out in the field. Figured perhaps others might have some ideas on how to fabricate such an item/adapter that can be used with most any Leatherman multi-tool - perhaps attaching to the large bit driver. or through the pliers area when the tool is spread out.

Have a Sony Cyber-shot camera, and a GoPro Hero Session (squared type). Have a GoPro adapter o the end of a selfie stick but this doesn't work well as a tripod/bipod/holder.

Something like this? Imagine a spread out LM for two of the tripod legs and the clamp turn knob for the third. Clamped on the plier pivot.

Cheers!

I picked one of these up cheap a couple of years ago:

I can see how you might want to use the legs of a MT... still need a third leg though. Plus if you want the gimbal assembly as well as the screw it starts getting bulky...

Maybe check out the Gerber Steady MT and see if anything about it could be adapted/inspired to a LM tool?
Pontificating particularly pious positions pertaining to polymorphic paraphernalia. G-Man.

Found the Joby magnetic-footed Gorillapod tripod where the joints kept falling apart or loosened up far too much. Cheap plastic stuff. :twak:

So... stub-ified it.

Using a Smurf'in Flair for more stability  :D

Essentially one could find a threaded bolt to fit cameras, one with a wider base. The attach a magnet to the underside, and should fit any multitool or other metal object. Since am looking for portability a rare earth magnet would work. Shunt a plate of metal across it to keep that magnet under control when not in use.
