Classic did fine in Key West.
on: July 11, 2018, 03:50:55 PM
Okay, flew back last night and I think I may still be sobering up. But a fine time was had by all who can remember most of it.

Knife jobs were from cutting key limes for the vodka tonics on the patio to trimming the end of the fishing line with the scissors when tying a blood knot on a hook. Squid tentacles where cut easy with the thin scalpel like blade. The catch of the day was filleted by the guy at the dock for drinking money so all we had to do was take it home and grill it.  A wood splinter was pulled from granddaughters foot from a wooden stairway that needed some sanding and repainting. Knife or scissors was also needed for cutting off those plastic stem price tags on souvenir T-shirts.

But Key West being a semi civilized place, not much knife was needed or tools either. My Victorinox Quattro in my wallet was never used, but the old army P-38 did get used to open a can while cooking on the patio.

For 5 days of partying in a tropical fishing/drinking/beach town, the little 58 did just fine. At least from what I remember. There are a few evenings where things are a little hazy in my mind. On the way to the airport I gave the classic to the guy driving the van and he seemed very pleased.

Nice read and good thing it came to use! 58mm does a lot when it has to and the fact that it's no bulk is just awlsome

Why am I not surprised?

Well done, Carl! You might have just recruited another member for our group.

That's why I love the 58. It punches above its weight, for the cost of a six pack of Coors. How the trip overall, Carl?

Glad you had a good time.  I'd bet you'd have used your 58 even more if you had taken a Rambler with a cap lifter.
Speaking of cap lifters, wish they'd bring back the Pocket Toolchest.

Over all, the whole trip was typical for Key West; FANTASTIC!

Great fishing, great bars, great live music. Did I mention drinking? :D

I love the place and have plans that when I get some very bad news form a doctor, I'm going there to die. But I know me, and I can't live there. I'd be a totally worthless drunk in a short time. It's a party town and that means lots of drinking. I love to drink and party, so I'm better off here in Texas being kept pretty strait by family. But one day...

I've tracked C across the interwebs over the years, and know that his love of small blades derives from childhood.  Its worthy of a deep psychological study.   :salute:
