Brands of ANSI / safety snap hooks and carabiners ?

I’m just a scholar of sorts but who out there can toss some brand names and or pics of rescue hooks/ carabiners tethers etc that they own or use ?

You really need to be more specific.
There are many types of rescue hooks from electrical safety to load ways to anchors etc.
Carabiners and webbing also have many categories.

I've climbed for sport, work and rescue.
All similar gear but standards, certs and use can differ greatly.

Ok, could we start with forged steel vs aluminum .. any info is appreciated for industrial, rescue, climbing or even nautical.

I don't know the ANSI system, but I just checked my climbing carabiners, they are KONG brand (italy, if that helps) and meet EN 12275

My nautical stuff has WLL or SWL marked, but no standard (broadly speaking I would be pretty happy to hang off most of it, and in many cases I have, although I prefer to hang off shackles rather than snap hooks)

I don't know the AS/NZS for climbing gear/carabiners (or same in other applications) off hand, but if this becomes interesting enough I can get my hands on it and see what the requirements are.

It occurs to me that I use ally hardware for random things that are not likely to go anywhere near load ratings, and steel for things where lives or equipment are on the line.

This has not been a conscious choice, and I rather suspect it has more to do with cost than anything else, I can afford ally clips and snaps for little things here and there, but the big end of town with the standards and the load ratings, steel is just cheaper, and mass is not a huge concern for me.

It's easy to overthink these things - sure for climbing, or belaying, or crane type activities you want a big factor of safety, but day-to-day, you can hang off an 8mm piece of steel all day and have no problems at all.

Update:

AS/NZS 1891.1 states (in more words but generally) -

20kN static force for the device (in the direction the device is designed to be used)
1kN force on the gate face (3mm separation from device permitted)
1.5kN gate side load (3mm deformation permitted)

Gate shall continue to operate as designed after the above tests.



As a fun bonus - all harness shall be labelled "only competent users should use this equipment"

Been looking at something a lot tougher than your regular hardware store carabiners for my keys (the cheapos break quickly, and aren't really rated for real load bearing or overhead lifting) and so far, these are on my shortlist. These are SMC, though marketed by Skedco.  These are NFPA certified.
