Shapton Glass stones -- anyone give these a try?
on: July 30, 2018, 11:18:58 PM
Recently I've bumped into adds for Shapton Glass Stones. They look pretty good, somewhat like waterstones.

I'm just curious if anyone has tried these and, if so, what the experience has been.

Why, yes!

Today's carry is my MTo PX, with an edge courtesy of your Worksharp.  :tu:

The diamond plates are a bit aggressive--they'd be good for repairing an edge--but I do like the ceramic rods and thought it was clever of them to add a strop. I think it would be a good system to take along in the camper.

Great , I like them for my straight razors , for more mundane , and everyday folders , kitchen knives , I use Strops with DMT paste , the Spyderco Sharpmaker , and Doublestuff , along with a bevey of flat stones . Shapton is overkill for everyday stuff !

Best Regards ,

Chris

Good to hear.

I also use a straight razor and was thinking that some of the fine grit stones might be nice for that. Right now, I finish my razor on a 12K Japanese waterstone (and strop), and that works nicely, but those Shaptons look like they'd be great for a straight razor.

Which stones do you use for the razor?

Nix , thats their main market . Inwould question their cost effectiveness for other stuff . At the price of new straight razors , today , they make sence .

Best Regards,

Chris
