Lets see your "well used" multitools!
on: July 12, 2018, 09:04:06 AM
Everyone can see a brand new and clean tool in the ads and online, but lets see them after they have been put to some use!  :D

Call it..."Patina from usage" if you would!  ;)

Gerber and Victorinox guys & girls join in too!

Here's my Charge TTI after 3 years of being my EDC with I use for both Hiking, Camping and in my business.....and currently while we are renovating.

Apart from a few "usage marks" it's mainly just dirty, should clean up nicely once we are done renovating.

Anyway, let's see yours!

The photos make this thing look good, but it is definitely used well. I just don't ever let my EDC stuff get too dirty. :ahhh

The biggest thing is the dinged up awl, and both flat drivers are reground after chipping.

I would say burying a tool in the ground for a year, shows more what neglect does to a tool, rather than how it holds up to actual usage.

Just my opinion

I see what you mean, but it’s a good comparison to certain leatherman tools that acquire rust as soon as you turn your back, from being in a pocket.

Kind of the same here, after two weeks of renovation work and getting full of dust and paint, I gave it a bath of WD40, and it came out looking all shiny and sort of new again....a part from a few “beausage” marks

There is a Japanese concept of beauty in decay called wabi-sabi. Not familiar with the German term.

I got this pioneer brand new in a trade back in 2012 (along with a black alox classic that I lost earlier this year :(). Since then it has been my true edc knife almost 100% of the time (minus a couple MTO challenges).  It's showing its history with the wear to the anodizing on the scales, but it's still as strong  and tight as the day I got it.

I've been carrying the LD01 in the same pocket for about the same amount of time as the pioneer. Its anodizing seems harder and it shows less wear, but it's still well loved

This is my EDC knife, has been for the last 2 years.

Been well used and been sharpened in many right but also wrong ways (not that I’m proud of it).

Knife was bought in a hunting and fishing store for €34.

Brand is called “JKR INOX”, never heard of the brand before, but it’s been a pretty good and trust worthy knife.

I don’t have any complaints about it at all.

JKR is the Chinese made sub-brand from Joker, a Spanish cutlery manufacturer. Much like Böker (Germany) has a cheaper line (Böker Magnum, made in China), the Joker brand has the cheaper JKR line  :salute:

They use AN-58 steel for most models in the JKR line, very close to 440B I believe, low edge retention but great toughness and excellent corrosion resistance. They are not very good, to be honest. Passable with few exceptions, maybe your knife being one of them.  :tu:

Joker is one of the oldest and better known knife companies in my country but like many others they had to outsource to China because of the low labor costs and salaries  :P and now only the Joker "high end" knives are made in Spain   ::)
My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest
