Painting/anodizing alox scales
on: September 27, 2018, 07:38:50 PM
Hello guys! Im an 25 y/o EDC enthusiast from Sweden, always been a fan of folding knives. In later days ive started getting drawn against SAK's, after watcing alot of beautiful knives and mods on this forum. So ive been sneaking around here, looking out for tips and tricks. Yesterday i went and bought my first Pioneer, the pivots and screws i ordered should come this weekend 8)

This first time i just want to change color on the scales, making it a little more personal. I kinda know how to take it apart and what i need to do to get everything to fit with the pivots after reading some posts here.
Buts whats really the best? To paint the scales with some good epoxy/alu primer to get my color of choice to stick? Or anodizing is just a better idea?

If there is any thread with this topic i couldent find, please post it here for me :D

-Franke

Welcome!

Some guys here have gotten some pretty good results just using nail polish to paint Alox.

I'd say that the "Swiss Army Knights Forum" or "The Mod Squad" or "Multitool.org R&D Section" might be better places to post this question.

Nail polish is “thicker” than the anodising, and may not look as good.
At least it’s reversible with some cloth and a cleaner.  :tu:
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

You might be right about that one, my mistake! You know how i can get any mod to move the thread to where it better belongs? ::)

Nail polish is a quick fix, it looks kinda... half finished. But its an alternative :D

Always nice to hear from other Swedish people around here! We are a few and keeps growing..

I did a quick search about companies anodizing in Sweden so might mail them and se if they do something that small?

[It's not failure if you learn something from it]

Welcome to :MTO: Franke. :salute:

Moved your thread to the Mod Squad section...

Tried out spray painting it... the end result can be seen the thread shared above... To get a long lasting finish, I think Hard Anodizing level 3 (HAIII) is the way to go...

I know my reply doesn't really answer any questions, but I do myself want to get some scales done at some stage, and have been looking towards some custom paintball stuff for inspiration, some of the fades and splash patterns I'm sure could look awesome scaled down.

Super, thank you  yes i saw that post and now i kinda understand why anodizing would be the best in the long go
