Latest sak mod
on: July 19, 2018, 10:43:36 PM
I am sure i am not alone in my appreciation for fluted corkscrews, there is something that appeals to me just as much and that is brass liners, i don't have nearly enough of them though so decided to build my own sak that has both
To start you get some of this

and hack it up it into some of these

then into a pile of these

and turn them into these

After some blood sweat and tears you turn it into one of these

Looks a bit naked there so lets get her into a new dress, and some accessories  :tu:

So what do we have, on the rear..my favourite corkscrew, there is also a chisel thing that is not very accessible but its really just a spring tensioner, i can pull it out with another tool if needed though, i may in the future cut a groove for it but for now i'm not that bothered, it's there if i need it..just a pita to access right now

Victorinox saw, i like them so it gets a place

Wenger main blade and Victorinox pen blade, Wenger blade could be doing with some extra filing as i'm not too happy about how it sits..sat fine on test fit though  we will see, i'm happy anyway

The hook lovers among us will have noted there is no hook, do not worry my fellow Knights, i have it covered  :D
Inline hook because..well, just...because  :salute:

And of course the mag, everyone needs a mag in their life

One more layer, to make that last layer you need a gnarly old number 9 Op blade

It's a bit on the large side so it gets put on a diet to lose some weight, and ends up like this

then this

and fitted, all done!

The point is not quite how i wanted it but i didn't want to break into the nail nick, still reasonably happy with how it turned out though  :tu:

So here it is, i will name it the Victopinenger, my favourite 3 knives in one  :tu: although i really wanted to squeeze a Mora in there too but Victopinengerora was too hard to say..maybe next time  ;)

Oh and by the way, this will be my application for a very special badge i really would like, wish me luck guys   :dd:

Incredibly cool work, Borg,
you put two of my favorite blades ever (Opinel and Wenger, two blades I liek more than Victorinox's standard blade  :ahhh) in a Vic Chassis with Vic implements, so really the best of both worlds

Ex-ce-llent!  :tu:

PS: I had similar trouble with the nailnick on my Opi when shortening the blade  :D

WOW!  :tu:  Love the Opinel blade in there!
I wonder what a 58mm mod with a small Opinel blade would be like?
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Thanks FB :tu: although i am not familiar with the smaller Opinels i'm pretty sure you can find a size that will need minimal work to make fit, go for it and good luck, they really are fantastic blades  :salute:

As mentioned i was not 100% happy with how the Wenger blade sat while open, it was too much nose down for my liking,  after some sanding and grinding it is now nicely in line with the backspring  :tu:

I should maybe have put one mag each side of the knife, would have made a nice set of Opera glasses, if you are sitting very very very close to the stage , mind you..would look a bit odd sitting in La Scala with a Vic balanced on your nose  :D

Thanks you Speedy, thank you VICMAN  :salute:

That would be like a flea circus i would imagine  :D

Time for a weigh in, i took the Explorer as it's not unlike the Victopinenger..in that it has 4 layers anyway

Now time for the mod

I'm no mathematician but it seems to be heavier, i never thought the Vic lanyard to be so heavy  :o

That inline hook should be even niftier than before- more solid pin, and in that configuration, more useful as a gut hook for small game.

And a carbon steel blade from that Opinel?

Thanks ironraven,  im  pretty sure the hook will prove itself useful in time, it has a half stop on it so i can use it inline or half open :tu:

Peacent i will put horizontal stripes on it, that should at least make it look lighter than it is  :D

I don't know if it will perform as good as the back monted hook. For parcel carrying, it has better grip, two fingers on each side. With the inline, maybe it's not so well balanced.

I think it awlso depends on what you use it for...

Thanks Speedy,  pfrsantos i get what you are saying about the grip and balance, that is true but it's more likely i will use it to pull wire or a spring than to carry a parcel, in the unlikely event i do find myself having to carry a stringed parcel the hook has a 90° stop, i can get my index finger over it comfortably and that will balance it out a bit but really it's just a pokey hookey thing that might come in handy some day  :tu:
