Swedge on 93mm Elinox blade?
on: July 20, 2018, 07:10:26 PM
I recently picked up an old cross Elinox pioneer. Today I noticed slight swedges on the back of the blade that start at the tip and go to the end of the nail nick. Now, the blade had been sharpened by an amateur and my first thought was that a previous owner had added these, but when I look closely, they seem very well done. If it was a previous owner, it wasn't the one who sharpened the blade.

Looking at pics online, it seems that some Elinox blades do have swedges, though it's hard to tell in most of the pics. There are also some that clearly don't have swedges.

So, the question for the experts is: are these swedges factory?

If the trees blew down the wind and no one was around, would the alphabet song really go backwards?

Factory. You'll also find these on older Soldier models.

Interesting, thanks. I've never once read a mention of them before, which is a bit surprising to me.

Since they were also on soldiers, that means it's not limited to Elinox marked blades. I wonder when they were introduced and then phased out

I don't know.

My KL83 doesn't have this swedge, but my KM87 (so a more recent one) does have it

Wenger also has them. My Wenger 66 has the swedge, my Wenger 83 doesn't.

Even more interesting. I'm surprised one that late has them. Always something new to learn about these knives
