Anyone ever make a Cadet X?
on: July 25, 2018, 11:29:43 PM
In my never ending quest for the perfect VSAK, I've decided to pursue a Cadet plus scissors, which I reckon would be a Cadet X.  I'm hoping someone might have pictures of a project they've done that's substantially similar to this.

I have a beater 84 mm Golfer that I'm going to sacrifice for its scissors, the correct brass rod, and limited modding experience.  So I might do it myself, but since this is a knife I want to look nice, I'm thinking I'll ask Syph007 if he'd be willing.  :)

Pics anyone?

As requested...it’s the one on the left...even swapped the file for a small blade

Been my dream project so far - to put a pair of scissors on a cadet. I think the main reason you don't see them around is that 84mm scissors are neigh impossible to find at decent price. Had I access to a set,  I'd immidiately make the knife the same day.

The tutorials pinned at the top of the mod section page shows two possible methods for this, one using 91mm scissors and springs and another using a recruit spring and Wenger scissors.  One of the moders on instagram has posted quite a few different cadet scissor mods.
here’s one of his group shots.

Thank you, Jaya Man.  This is exactly what I'm after.

I have a beater Golfer not worth keeping as a Golfer, so I have the scissors puzzle piece solved.  What I really don't want to do is smurf up my project with my rookie peening skills.  Could you tell me where you got the screw pivots for your Cadet X?  They look perfect.

Thanks!

Myron

Thanks Stoneshank.  Yes, as mentioned, I have a good donor knife with scissors, so really the only piece missing for me is deciding whether to peen over some pins (ie, traditional pivots) or try to source some pivot screws.  I'd really rather use screws, but not sure where to get correct units.

Thanks!

Thanks Simyo.  I have the scissors, so no need to modify a 91 mm pair.

If and when I get the knife together I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Thanks,

Myron

With peening, it’s not hard to redo without damaging any tools if you mess up.

While I don’t know for sure, I think that using screw pivots will require expanding the pivot holes of the tools to fit the diameter of the screw pivots.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Thanks guys.  I've built two alox Cadets, so have limited experience, but I'm thinking I'll give it a go again.

You guys are awlsome!  Thanks for the vote of confidence and you can sure betcha I'll be back with pics.

And the truth is I never would've even done the two Alox Cadets that I did without MTO support.

Back soon with my results!

This was my first ever mod. Started with an alox bantam (cheaper entry price) and a flea market recruit that I got for $0.50, used Wenger scissors because I had one in a drawer that I picked up somewhere. Went fairly smoothly, next time I will certainly do something’s differently.

Thanks. This is a knife I have wanted for a long time. Used my Google fu to find the post about adding the Wenger scissors here and decided to man up and do it myself.

Basically any SAK or MT related google search always leads me to this wonderful forum of ours... which then led me to sign up...

With so many mods showcased, got me  to think, if anyone can... so can I... just needed some courage to push ahead...

Btw, I like your peening job... :salute:

Wow I thought it was a little rough, but it holds and the tools all snap shut. Function over form was what I was looking for.

Yes, Andrew, your rivet heads look great.  Very nice work on the Voyageur-alike.  How do you like Wenger scissors compared to Vx?

they work and are always in my pocket. I would love to have a set of 84mm Vic scissors but the wengers are good enough especially for the cost of having them laying in a drawer. The fit isn't perfect or a syph level mod but again function is what I was looking for. I probably use the scissors more than anything else on my SAK.

Well to those of you who complimented my preening job, I must have done better than I though. Got this message from Victorinox on Instagram. Of course I said yes to let them use my modified Vic in their marketing material.
