Mmm ... why?

Because it’s fun? There’s stuff I do just because. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But I never understood having to buy the same thing in every color offered.

Why I collect different colours? Because some of those are ultra hard to get and thus possibly ultra rare down the road. There are a few that were sold only in Europe. Collectors know that colour can be an important aspect of collecting. There are items out there more valuable because of their colour. Or it can be as simple as just getting one of every variation you can. Every collector does things for different reasons. And also because it can be fun.  ;)

Very impressive Chako!  You always have very good presentations and explanations. Are you still adding to the collection? Thought I read somewhere that it came to a stop. It would be a shame this far along if so. Either way, love seeing the collection!

Welcome to :MTO: tjb :tu:

Having all variations/colors of certain models can be very cool if you have them all together to look at 8) :like:

tjb,

First, welcome to MT.o! :)

Collecting is dependant on what level you want to take it. Some collectors, like myself(right now), just want a single example of every model of any brand that interests us. Other collectors, like Chako, seek to complete a model sub-sets with every (or as close to every) variation possible. It is just one of those things that differentiates collections, like our personalities differentiate us as people. It can be monetarily dependant, but I personally feel, anyone could focus in either direction(given enough time to overtake monetary deficiencies). To what extent, in either direction, is the monetarily limiting factor. IMO of course.

One of the reasons, I chose to go in the direction of diversity of models, is reading about Chako's storage/space issues with housing the collections. At one point, I set out to collect every variation(but not colors) of the MP600/Multi-Lock(variant diversity), but that was the time I started reading about Chako having to slow down on his collecting. At that point, I refocused my collecting to model diversity.

So, I have no idea if these directions have been defined, but my hypothesis is that there are two collection focuses. 1) Variant diversity. 2) Model Diversity.

They are not mutually exclusive, as you will see, in Chako's other collection photos. He has a wide model diversity with incredible variant diversity and color assortments. I think you'll come to appreciate/respect the dedication collectors like Chako (and several others) have put into the hobby.

I don't have the dedication that the big-hitter MT collectors have, as I have a ton of other moderately extensive hobbies, but I do like to have as many unique models of MTs as I can get. I only have 230 MTs(right now..hehe), but I could definitely see how someone would still enjoy having 230 of the same tool with slight differences.  :tu:

Chako,
Great to see you're getting things reorganized the way you want! Impressive as always.

1. That was a very unfortunate first post, ranking on the top of "Most unfortunate first posts to make" next to "I want to show you and sell this thing I have" and "Do you have XXXX for sale?

2. Chako, that's a neat collection and I really enjoyed your pics and variations, as usual. There are some hen's teeth in there!! Gold plated Sidekick  :o

3. GLBM made very good points,  :tu:
I'd argue though that there are other types of focus in collecting other than "Variant diversity" and "Model diversity", such as "Color diversity", "Brand variation", "Year of production diversity" or "Country of origin diversity", "Themed diversity" or "Logo diversity"  :salute:

When they first appeared, I think I was Texas Toolcrafter's biggest customer. Besides, who wouldn't want a gold plated multi...it goes so well with ma grill!

No worries on the post. I took no offense. It is a legit question.  :tu:
