Minimalist challenge...
on: August 07, 2018, 03:27:17 PM
Waiter went in my pocket before work today .....
If you can't fix it at 3 am with a SAK and electrical tape, are you even a technician?

Here goes 30 days of consecutive pics. Hopefully I'll be off of night shift before this is over

I did 10 years of night shift so I know how you feel!  This challenge was amongst my favorites.  Have fun!

I did grave shifts and night shifts for so long as well.  Good luck with the challenge.

dkop, may I join you in these 30 days? I've been meaning to have a minimalist month for a while now, and challenges are more fun when one's not doing it alone.

Also, someone in the know should clarify if one can switch between SAK's fitting the description during the challenge or should it strictly be one particular model all the way?

I didn't think the challenge required the same minimalist SAK for the whole month, does it? I have a cadet and tinker I was hoping to mix in.

I don't mind at all! I think you're required to start your own thread though for most every challenge

Yeah, you can swap - as long as it's no more than two layers.

It's a little easier to manage if you have separate threads but makes little difference.  If you want to both use this one that's fine.

If we're allowed to jump in on this thread, I'll join too.  Looks like its a go!

I'm minimalist everyday, but haven't actually done the legwork for the badge (even though I think I may have started the first minimalist challenge:facepalm:

Thanks for the clarification!
I don't mind anyone else hopping on my thread if the mods don't mind.

I've been on a kick for the smaller tools lately so I should enjoy this greatly. I have an alox sd classic coming shortly so that's definitely going to get some keychain time

...and then for Day 1 I nominate my Golfer, as it's the one I already carried today when I stepped out.

Day 2.... National Night Out down at the township building. Good turnout despite the torrential downpour and some stuck apparatus in the mud (those in the Northeast US and other places will understand the pain of oversaturated soil lately)
Tinker in black came with didn't see much use unfortunately. Afterwards a dark beer and a dark knife... Fitting combo

Ha... Best sentence yet....  :salute:
Good luck with the challenge.

I've been on 84mm 2 layer Sak's strictly for like 2 years or more now. Don't really "need" anything else for normal EDC. All my 91's have been sitting in the drawer for most of the time, except for a ocasional climber or huntsman when heading to the country.

My bear paw hands pretty much need 91mm or larger to feel comfortable. Though I love that little waiter and how it fits in the pocket, it is too small for my hands to do any "aggressive" cutting work. my usual is a 91mm tinker i put translucent green plus scales on, but i seem to be unable to locate it..... So the black handled one is filling it's place until I find my beloved. Or give up and just buy another set of plus scales to swap onto this one. All the tools are still tight, just some evidence of oxidation on the aluminum plates.

My today´s carry -- minimalism, Ron Who style. The Waiter, the Director, and the BuSchroder all satisfy the criteria for a minimalist challenge, but then I could carry only one at a time.

Day 2

Today it was the DofE's turn, basically the same as the Golfer, just with Phillips on the back instead of the corkscrew. I used it one time, to snip a loose thread from my t-shirt. Always good to have scissors, thta's why these are my two favorites, and why I don't really carry other 1 or 2 layer SAK's, although for the sake of the challenge, I'll try other ones as well at some points.

Day 3, new keychain knife came from eBay (alox classic) so I figured I'd take it for a spin as my blade today. Also a "nature adventure" 2015 classic came with it, but that one's getting filed away in the collection as it's in pristine condition. So is the Alox, but I've been wanting one for ages.

Day 3:

An apple a day keeps me using my knife for fun things :)

I have noticed that the old Elinox pioneer does not slice quite as nicely as my newer ones. I think it's a combination of the thicker blade stock and the rougher, less polished finish. Still a great knife.

Day 3

I spent the day home, I haven't been out, so I couldn't say I carried something per se, but I only used one SAK today, my Sentinel, and you can't go much more minimalist than that. (You can, but really not by much. :) ) Some slicing and dicing for a light salad. The Sentinel is great for kitchen stuff, I use it in that role quite frequently.

This is a great challenge, and a fun one too.

Somehow the Pioneer doesn't feel entirely 'minimalist' to me. That is one heck of a knife. But, the rules is the rules, so good luck to awl!  :tu: :tu: :tu:

Yeah, the pioneer is a capable knife for sure.  :tu:  One could even argue it's the best Swiss army knife ever made   (Not that I'd be so bold ;))

For the first minimalist challenge (pre badge days) I used a bantam and I used to edc a cadet for a couple years, so I don't feel like I need to prove to myself I can do it. I'm used to living in the minimal carry world.

My aim this time (besides satisfying the badge requirements) is to have fun taking random pics of my favorite knife
