Does anybody have a Vic Delémont?
on: August 09, 2018, 07:21:49 PM
Hey folks,
I am looking for infos on the new Victorinox Delémont line knives.
What I'd like to know is which tools in these differ from the ones used in regular Wenger knives. As far as I can tell, only the can opener looks noticeably different. Does anybody have a new Vic Delémont and an old Wenger (with several tools) to compare them?
For example, is the Vic Delémont metal file made of stainless steel, like on current production Victorinox knives?

On a more specific note, has anyone tried modding these? Are tools and pieces compatible with ones from Wenger knives? Is the pin size like Wenger or like Victorinox pins?

No modding experiences, so can't help you there.

You're right about the can opener.
Also switched over is the awl.
Furthermore Wenger used to have their scales fall over the outer liners, while with the Delemont line, the scales are on top of the liners like it's always been with Vic.
This also brings up the tweezers and toothpick. These became the Vic models too.

Here is a Wenger and Vic Delemont for comparison

The Vic Delemont has a locking blade, the Vic can opener, Vic awl, and the blade stops when opening at the position you see it in the photo before it is opened all the way.

Thanks folks and great comparison pictures!
I could be wrong, but it looks to me the shape of the blade is slightly different as well?

I wonder why they changed the can opener. I am quite sure some people preferred Wenger shape over Vic's, so they could have left them with a choice.

Thanks shadowrider.

When I put them side-by side, the Wenger blade appears to have a slight bit more belly than the Vic blade.

The one thing I really liked about the Wengers was the size.  The evolution scales (the only ones available in the Delmont Collection) add needless bulk.  The Vic attachment method and larger Vic style T&T mentioned by Mechanickal make the scales even bulkier.
Wish they'd offer the Wenger Traditional scales (they did recently with the old 65mm Esquire).

I'm rather liking my new Delemont Evowood 10.  Seems to be a very nice marriage of the best of both companies (IMO).  Slightly deeper blade of Wenger, along with the more grippy cap-lifter and semi-locking screwdriver are a boon.  I never hated the Wenger can opener but the added small screwdriver that the Vic one brings cannon be overlooked.  What I hadn't noticed before was that they moved to the Vic awl/reamer.

I was just admiring my Evowood yesterday. The celidor version is nice, but I really like the Evowood.

Agreed, nice blend of Vic and Wenger.  :tu:

Very nice Gareth. One of them might just cure me of my long term project to obtain WSpeed's Walnut Spartan by stealth ...

Here's a Victorinox Delemont S111 which is out-of-production.
Basically the same as a Vic Tinker, but with locking blade.

  I certainly like it but I also got it at a reduced price on Amazon (sadly a deal that disappeared as soon as I had ordered mine).  I'm still not convinced the "evo" sculpted scales add anything other than a bit of bulk and it's a shame Vic haven't done anything to balance the prices on these.  I reckon I can get an equivalent Sportsman for around half the price of an Evo 10.  :-\

I have a Wenger with the red Evo scales (the same as the S111 above but a Wenger) and really dislike the scales. They are slick and uncomfortable to me. They don't give much choice in ways to grip the knife in use. Also, the blade release is placed where it can be accidentally released with a normal grip of the knife.  I'm not a buyer of any Vic Evos.
