What Is The New Victorinox Channel Lock?
on: August 10, 2018, 06:12:55 AM
There are dealers who are advertising a 111 Forester with wood scales which has a new "Channel Lock".

I can't find anything at the Vic website.

A search here yielded information about channel lock pliers but nothing about Vic's new channel lock.

Does any member have some info on this?

 This definitely has my curiosity up. I looked at about 10 different places selling Foresters w/ the wood, and nowhere is this mentioned.

I’m thinking that it's just a weird way to say liner-lock reguarding the blade...

Any links to said dealers would help :tu:

Edit:

Found a Work Champ with the supposed “channel-lock”.

I’m sticking to my theory about the locking blade....

This new model has a different model number as well.

MODEL NUMBER:0.8361.63US2

If you look closely,it also appears to have a different blade profile.

Yeah, it's the same Ebay dealer who happens to call the lock on the blade a channel-lock....

The differences are just some minor tweaks to the design.

Thanks, but minor tweaks is not specific.

The blade has a slightly different shape, and I’m pretty sure there were some changes to the liner lock... Might be able to search something like new style victorinox (liner) lock or new style 111mm lock as far as that goes. I think that's about it.

Let me add my 2 cents to your discussion - it's absolutely the same knife as regular Forester (liner-lock), but with wooden scales.
Some proofs :)

that's very easy

"channel lock" must mean "Liner lock", as in some languages the word "Channel" (canal, chanelle, etc.) means the same or almost the same as "liner" (línea, lineado, etc.),
meaning "a straight line, channel, hole, passage, course, trail, path, flour or race, parallel or almost parallel to others nearby", because that's essentially what a linerlock is  :tu:,  in relation to the liners of a folding knife :salute:

"Channel-Lock" is trademarked anyway, so I wouldn't think Victorinox would use it this way.

The model number is different than the one in your link. Model number 0.8361.63

 Current Model Number 0.8361.63US2

It's the same model. Suffix 'US2' in number means only US market, nothing more

What about the re-profiled blade?  Is this specific to the US version?

I can bet, that blade is also the same. It might looks different, because it's not a real pictures, but rendered images.
I suppose it's very not-effective (for Victorinox) to create a new type of blade for only one model (IMHO)

Maybe.

I hope they change the shape of the blade on all models, since the current shape does not perform one of the functions of a knife blade well. That is the ability to pierce any object on which you may be working.
