Lets See Your Road Trip Tool Kit

What tools do you guys bring for a road trip? Do you like to go minimalist like me, with just a Wave and bit kit (and some others for basic vehicle repair), or do you throw your whole toolbag/box into the car (and maybe more) ?

Have a wrench kit and screwdrivers in the car, but also took a Compact, Outrider, Spirit in Skinth with bit kit & bit wrench, a folder...

Since most modern cars are not to repaired on the road you dont need a lot...

Still had the following when 4 weeks on the road in france:

Old Gen 1 Sog Powerplier (since non locking)
Bitkit + Wrench and Ratchet plus small nuts
Ducktape
Cordage
Wire

Was ok with that.

My road trips are largely motorcycle trips. So.... here's what I've got:

Modified Winchester version of the Kutmaster Wrench Head. Two-piece jaws like the Multimaster, but with a T-handle driver configuration like the Wrench Head. Tool load was originally the same as the MultiMaster, but I used most of the tools out of a Wrench Head instead, along with the saw blade from the Winchester. Then I tossed in a pair of scissors from a completely different tool. I put in a custom bit selection (favoring security Torx, which are used on my motorcycle), as well as a selection of metric allen bits in a separate (red) holder. The flashlight loop holds a 2 AAA flashlight from Advance auto. The front pouch of the sheath used to contain four sockets of various metric and standard sizes, but I put a Leatherman ES4 Squirt in there, for wire cutting and stripping duties. This whole thing gets stashed under the seat. (There is plenty of under-seat storage).

I also store a Swiss Tech adjustable wrench multi tool (and a bitdriver extension) in a 130mm Victorinox sheath, and stow that under the seat as well. The pliers and wrench area easily accessible.

The black plastic box is the OEM toolbox for my bike. It fits under the left side panel, down low right above the belt drive sprocket. I have to remove the left side cover, and then unlock another cover with the ignition key, before I can access this toolbox. So it's not terribly convenient. The OEM toolkit was laughable, it came with five tools, two of which I tossed. (really terrible pair of pliers, and a wrench to adjust my shocks. I put different shocks on, and that wrench doesn't work on the new ones)

The only three OEM tools are the 14/17 combo wrench, the screwdriver, and the wrench extension handle. The rest is a mix of Yamaha and Honda toolkit tools, either that I already owned or that I purchased from eBay, as well as some regular wrenches to fill in the gaps. The knife is a cheapie Sheffield. There is also a small box of fuses that go into the toolbox, which I forgot to put in the photo.

Here's my winter driving kit, from top clockwise:
Large container with sand (for traction), an old but serviceable pair of boots, gloves, and hat, yaktraks,
small shovel, Leatherman Fuse, ice scraper, flashlight and batteries (AA),
Deicer, windshield fluid, empty spray bottle (for windshield fluid),
and center, small blanket.


The Fuse and flashlight are redundant to the tool kit I always keep in the car (see next post).

I keep this one in my wife's car.  Started with a nice compact kit I picked up at Sears (remember Sears).
Full metric and fractional inch set of sockets, ratchet, short extension, spark plug socket, bit driver, 4 bits, 3 fractional inch open end wrenches, and a few allen wrenches.
Nice enough, but I added a few things (to the left): metric open/box wrenches (even in the US cars are all metric), large needle nose pliers, full set of 1/4" bits, box cutter.
A flashlight stays in the glove box.
