Introducing the "Compacter"
on: August 17, 2018, 04:04:07 AM
Syph007 brought another one of my dream knives to life (Thanks, Syph007!):

I thought of this as being an Alox Compact; Robert named it the "Compacter."

And it is.

Just a beautiful knife, and one that feels good in the hand. Robert's textured scales give a great grip.

He built this to my request, using my three favorite SAK tools, but exceeded my expectations. I'm just enthralled right now.......

In comparison to the original Compact, the Compacter is a bit heavier: 70 grams vs. 64 grams. However, the Compacter is a 93mm SAK with a thicker knife blade and titanium scales. I feel the few extra grams is worth the size and durability.

And, the Compacter is much thinner than the Compact. Not Cadet thin, but a very thin 10.6mm vs the Compact's 15mm thickness. The Compact is a great EDC, but after a short while carrying the Compacter, I think it is going to be an awlsome SAK to EDC.

I'm in the middle of the Chuck Yeager Challenge with an Executive, so there won't be any extra photos for a while.   After the CYC, the Compacter seems destined to be my new EDC.  :tu: :SAKnight:

I think you have excellent taste...but I might be a bit biased.

Bob was kind enough to build this one for me a couple of years ago:

Very nice!

I thought syph was only doing 91mm mods now, so this gives me hope that he can make me something when I have the funds someday

A little curious about the awl: do you guys really use it more than the openers/combo/nail file?

I often find a situation where I need/use one of the latter, never needed the former...

Thanks, guys!   :hatsoff:  Hard not to carry it today.   :(

A little curious about the awl: do you guys really use it more than the openers/combo/nail file?

I rarely really need the combo tool or opener layer tools. They are fun to use, but rarely do I find myself out and about and in need of a can opener. But, I each for the awl quite often to use as a reamer, pick, punch, and.....sometimes awl. It is definitely on of my awl-time favorite tools.  :tu:

Cool knife Nix! I  :like: Compacters!

Some day I´ll have a poor man´s version of the Compacter by removing the opening layer from a PX, the same way I got my BuSchroder by removing the opener layer from a Farmer. But I´ll have to obtain a second PX first.
