Drinking soda water to balance out the reflux from the antiflams, good times.   ::)

Z-man, sorry you're still feeling tore-up.

Ice is your friend. Better yet, put a bottle of corn syrup in a heavy duty zip-top bag and freeze it. This makes a great cold pack and can mold around joints and necks better than ice. I keep two bags of corn syrup in the freezer and rotate them, one is refreezing while the other is being used. 20 minutes of icing every hour or so. That means during the Epic Lawrence of Arabia you can get in 3 or 4 good icing sessions.

And here's a cheery film:

As a bonus, you may be able to understand the dialogue given your, regional familiarity. (I'm making the potentially ignorant assumption that Aussies and Kiwis speak the same language, but it seems like a safe bet.)

Was that a pun?

I got the corn syrup idea from a physical therapist....because.....you know.....#knees....     I filled two quart bags with the goo, froze them, and used them religiously; still have 'em in there. Since they don't freeze solid, they stay malleable.   :tu:

They really work well. When my dog got knee surgery, I used the corn syrup 'gel packs' on his knee, too. He tolerated it well and the vet seemed to think it helped his recovery, too.

OK, just put the gel packs back in the freezer.....and I found I had a third stashed in there......  Not that I'm injury prone or anything.

Dawn dish soap also works for homemade ice packs  :tu:

Some cool (no pun intended) ideas, Steve.

Maybe I've had too many injuries, but I've had some experience with some of these......

1. Corn Syrup -- This rocks, as previously described.

2. Dish Soap -- good, but tends to ice up. I think this option actually costs more (in the USA) than the corn syrup option. But if it is cheaper, this is a good option.

3. Ethanol -- I had a physical therapist (not the same one who recommended the corn syrup option) recommend this idea. Good, but it still tends to ice up, and then it melts unevenly and becomes harder to concentrate. At best a mix of rubbing alcohol and water becomes a slushy messy, not bad, but a bit loose. Your mileage may vary. Definitely better than frozen peas or plain ice.

4. Salt -- uh, OK. Better than plain water; true.

5. Sponge --n this one I've never tried. Interesting. But......it wouldn't seem to lower the freezing point significantly. Might actually be harder to use. I'm not sure this would be any better than frozen  peas or just a slushy bag of ice. I don't foresee trying this option.

Yes, it's a bit concerning that I have an opinion on these options.

The one I read about using Dawn liquid has rubbing alcohol in it as well. Maybe helps with the icing up

Homemade ice pack: 1 quart size Ziploc Freezer bag (Double zip will protect best against leaks) / 1 - 9 oz bottle dish soap / 1 cup rubbing alcohol

Dude, two words for you: Vod - Ka!

I keep a bottle in the freezer. Great for shots. Doesn't get solid, either. You can have a knee pack filled with it. When it starts to get warm, just chug it and get another from the freezer.

Repeat until you can't get up to go to the freezer to get the next one.

So... have we established what you had in your pockets yet? I'm pretty sure you would have had snow, gravel and tree bark in there before you came to a full stop?

Sorry to hear you hurt yourself, shoulders are terrible things to muck-up (actually, you probably don't want to hear that... sorry).

Take it easy buddy... I shall think of some films for you.

Think the problem was coming to a full stop too quickly.

  • Victorinox Spirit
  • Thrunite T10

The points are still up for grabs.

Ouch. The third object must have been your Opinel No. 120 saw, it was so big, it caused you to crash  :pok:
