I was clearing out the garage and came upon an old lockback knife.
There's nothing special about it, a brandless made in japan situation, chrome plated handle with plastic "grips"
The plastic on both sides has cracked, and therefore the rivets are loose, making the whole knife nice and floppy.
It's basically worthless (or worth whatever someone would pay for it, I suppose), but it has sentimental value as I got it from the old man about 20 years back, so I thought it might be nice to fix it up a bit and give it a bit more life. Nothing too fancy, I don't want to inlay it with mother of pearl, I just want to make it usable again.
I was thinking of drilling out the rivets, throwing the plastic away, filling the space with resin, then re-rivet.
Anyone with a bit of experience in this sort of thing got any suggestions?
(If I can find a picture of the same design knife, I'll link it for reference)
Edit:Just like this one, but with cracked plastics -
