I dusted off my leather drovers hat for the UK meet weekend, and it rained, so it got me thinking, what do you all use to keep your leather goods in good condition and waterproof/resistant if needed.

I've used Mars leather food for years on my hat and previously on my motorbike jackets.  The tin I have is an old one and looking at their website it's now called mars leather cream.

So what do you all use?

SnoSeal  works great for boots not sure you'd want to use it on a hat though.

I know I should, but I'm quite neglectful to be honest. I have used Wilma's bear grease once or twice, but that stuff stinks. I think the only leather goods that I tend to care for is shoes, and that's just standard Kiwi boot polish. My soft leather jacket has experienced all kinds of weather, (even though I'll wear something else if I'm expecting rain) and I've never treated it with anything in the 15 (?) years I've had it. Never treated a belt. Never treated my Barmah hat. Never treated gloves.

No excuses, I'm just an abysmal failure with leather maintenance.

Traditionally mink oil.  Haven't really had a need for that in years, so I don't know if that's still available.

I can easily recommend Chelsea Leather Food. I also tend to use Saddle Soap, and for boots SnowSeal.

I use SnoSeal and Obenauf Heavy Duty LP.  Both brilliant for leather.

Dubbin on my boots, Zanolin on my jackets. I've also used Shu Glo at times.

So far so good?

Not Dubbin! it rots the stitching, Nikwax is a very good alternative.

For sheaths, belts etc I use Renapur

Use Bickmore Leather Conditioner, H-D Leather Care, or Gibb's Lube; for the quick once-over.

In my family, we always use a coconut' grease product and it always works perfectly.

Yup, takes a little while, but it will rot the stitching. I had it happen to me way back when I was in the Scouts.

There is nothing worse than wet boots.
