Modified Leatherman project
on: September 04, 2018, 02:13:44 PM
So ive current got a Leatherman Rebar with my name engraved on the blade and a PTS II. The PTS has become my favourite tool, especially with the non locking aspect being young and living in the UK it means i can have it everywhere and not worry about trouble with the law.
What I would like to do though is take the blade and saw from my rebar and put it into the PTS II.
Ive never taken mine apart before but does anyone have any tips on what to do and any mistakes they made when doing their first mod on their Leatherman?

If you don't have them already invest in some of lokimobiles wrenches. They make taking apart Leathermans a breeze.

Make sure you heat up the pivots to release the loctite before loosening. The Rebars pivots are keyed so only the side that has the file or saw turns. While the pivot size is the same on the Rebar and PST you may have to do some grinding to make them fit in the PST II.

Good luck and take lots of pics !

Thanks guys, how do I get one of his tools? I'm new to this page so not 100% how everything works but I can't seem to send him a message. Is there an email or anything?

Welcome to :MTO:

You need 5 posts to be able to send PMs (personal messages) so just keep posting until you reach 5, should be a breeze at this rate heheh.

Loki-mobile is the name you're looking for. You can PM him or place a reply in his thread, search for it using "parse" as the search word (I think). He sells little wrenches for the knurled screw heads on LM pivots. EDIT: I see now Poncho65 beat me to providing a link (sorry, am on the smartphone)

Word of caution: as far as I've understood so far from our UK based members even a PST2 is considered locking by the law, insofar as you need to open the handles to allow stowing the blade. I could be wrong, though, but I'll let said members weigh in if I'm not.

Wait. I am quite sure there's not enough material on the tools on rebar to fit properly in the pst..

I have never put Rebar tools in a PST so Sam's advice is way more correct than mine about any type of modding :salute:

Brilliant I'll drop him a PM!

I mean if they don't fit together worst comes to worst I'll take them apart and just give them a good cleaning as being a van driver my meals are eaten in the van during work and I maaaaaaay have used my Leatherman to spread peanut butter before so a cleaning couldn't go wrong haha.

I'm no expert but I think some of the Guys apply some heat to the pivots to loosen the thread lock before undoing them
Maybe use a soldering iron or drop the tool in boiling water?
