T-shank jigsaw holder - does it only exist on the Surge?
on: September 04, 2018, 03:12:19 PM
After seeing Tofty's t-shank adapter in the Wave challenge, I realized I had never seen a t-shank jigsaw holder, like a folding what or anything really. The only one I have seen is the one the Surge has. Does this tool not exist in the world? I cannot find anything for t-shank saws. Not a whole power-tool, just a handle, with a folding slot for t-shank jigsaws. Maybe a sliding one? Or at least a fixed one.
I have seen designs for 3d printers, but if it does not exist, then kudos to Leatherman for filling the gap.

There's one (the same as the Surge ) on the Supertool 300 EOD, IIRC.

Yup, the one on the ST300EOD is actually intended for saw blades. The slot on the Surge one is 'wider' than spec to accept the file and wood saw which are thicker.

There are loose handles for T-shank blades, I got these via Amazon.de. Will have to look for details.

I had forgotten about the ST one. Also nice. What an addition to the SuperTool. Excellent.
Still, no generic holders? I imagined Stanley would have one.

Here's a close look at the ST300 EOD one.

So it does exist!  :like:

Sadly, we're on Amazon's blacklist, and the one seller I found is in Germany, and the listing is $22 US the item, and $58 US shipping. That's so weird. Why on Earth is this tool not common?

The Stanley Pocket Saw pops up, but there's not a single picture of what blades it takes.

If it is like the Stanley one that I have it takes reciprocating  saw blades  :salute: the t-shank blades would be great with a handle as well :tu: :like: as you said I cant believe that there aren't more of these around  ???

The more I search, the more impressed I am with Leatherman.

How many times have you talked about the Surge, and mentioned "it's got a folding t-shank jigsaw holder"?
And yet, by itself, this tool is borderline unseen. I assumed there would be tons of designs, different sizes, fixed, folding, sliding, storage in the handle, thin ones, rubber-grip ones, and lots of manufacturers to chose from. Especially tool companies who make these kind of hand-tools, like Stanley, Irwin, Husky, Kobalt etc. Bosch makes great t-shank blades. Why do they not make their own hand-held handle for them?

If you are not afraid of going broke... there is always this:
T-Shank holder
I filed down the LM metal file to fit.

That's gorgeous!  :dd:
Rather expensive, though. A Surge is much less money.

I have a Surge, and it looks like the best t-shank holder there is. I am even happier to have one now.  :multi:

:ahhh
Should I give up a tool for that, or get Tofty's adapter, but carry it around?

So many choices... :like:
Also, it seems more and more that a LM tool is the best t-shank handle you can have.

It turns out Bosch did have their own holder, but it's been discontinued.
But it looks huge anyway.

Can anyone recommend a good metal cutting blade for my Surge?  I can’t figure out how many teeth per inch I need. I like the one that I bought for the ST 300 EOD, but I guess that they aren’t compatible.

I think that is the brand I am going with. Diablo is really good but the price doesn’t justify it when I am using the saw by hand.

Diablo for circular saw blades yes!  I bought some cheap HF&T T-shank a while back and they were ok.  Bosch is fair priced and you can find them most anywhere.
