Nasty story, glad to hear you're doing good!  :salute:

A couple of years ago I had a cyst in my jaw. It showed up as a growing bump on my jaw, and I also kind of waited a bit too long before going to the doctor. When I finally went to the doctor and he referred me to the hospital, the dreadful thing opened up inside my mouth litterally when I was in the train on the way to the hospital. It was the most uncomfortable and appalling thing that has ever happened to me, and the obvious lesson learned was to NEVER ever wait too long before seeing a doctor

No clue Alan K. I just assumed it was part of the accident. It formed a few months afterwards, and I was off for a month and a half from work as my bones mended.

Still getting some bad stuff out as I am now pressing gently around the wound. Looks like I am getting less and less. I know that cleanliness is essential here. I just thank my lucky stars I am the type that would go out and buy a honking huge first aid kit for the house. It has come in handy plenty of times since.

Sorry to hear that glenfiddich 1983. I can only imagine...but I am trying not to imagine too closely.  ;)

Man what a night. My wound never did quite heal...except the outside hole did...and that eventually went bad again. My girlfriend once again suggested that I needed to go to the hospital to look at it. I forgot that Monday is the worst for emergency wait times. We both got to emergency and waited to get triaged by the first nurse. Then I had to go to another booth to get my paperwork done. I am told to go into the fast track waiting room. I wait around an hour to have my named called into the door by a nurse. I am then escorted to an examination room inside of emergency. I am put on ice for another hour until I see my first doctor. He steps in, looks at my sebaceous cyst, gives me another ultrasound to see if it is worthwhile to open it up again. Tells me that I must be put back under the knife....and leaves me to stew for another 40 minutes. During my incarceration, I have noted that the floor is crawling with little brown ants. I am a bit happy to know I am not left alone in the room. Then a nurse comes in, brings me to one of their operating rooms, and leaves me to cool my heals again for almost another hour. I eventually go out in the hallway as I am terribly bored with the whole thing. If I sit down and think...all this time would only force me to focus on my predicament..and that is never a good think. I eventually spot my doctor walking by with a Tim Hortons cup in his hands. I say hello...he now remembers me, and tells me he will only be 2 minutes to get ready. He of course takes another 20 minutes. Eventually he gets in and does the deed in about 3 minutes flat. Best part, he decided to pack it with gauze which means I will have to go back tomorrow after work. Yay me! If I have to wait so long tomorrow, I may just have to buy shares in the place and take residence.

Hopefully this will be what you needed to get the wound healing. Take it easy and think about all the watches you have to wear. :iagree:

Hi Dan

Hoping for a quick recovery for you!

Disclaimer.....I'm obviously not a doctor, but I'm surprised by the sound of it they closed the wound?

From what little I know wounds like those are better left "open" (bandaged of course) so they heal from the inside,,,,there's even a term for it....which I don't remember.

I ended up in ICU with a heart that refused to beat a few years ago, turns out the cause was an abscess around a dental implant.
I quit smoking and got fit.......so the poison from the abscess was very efficiently pumped throughout my body......

The first time, the doctor decided to leave it open as did the second doctor. Packing the wound is to ensure that the wound will not close early. Guess they are trying something different. I am told that once the infection goes down...to contact my family doctor to set up a surgery to remove it all hopefully for good. Still not looking to another emergency visit today. At least the girlfriend won't have to suffer along with me.
