Limited editions, deception and rumours
on: September 14, 2018, 01:37:58 AM
Sorry about the clickbait subject... I just came back from a private event at the Geneva flagship store and I learned some interesting things... Just thought I'd share them with you and ask for your thoughts and if you know more

1) All numbered limited editions actually have 1 more knife than what they say. Take the Damas 2018 for example. They say there are 6000 pieces, right? Well they actually start at 0000/6000 so unless they don't make a 6000/6000, that's 6001! The knife with the 0000 serial number is actually given to Mr. Elsener.
Here's the proof: I've heard a first-hand account of someone who held the 0000/6000 in his hands... And I've got a picture too:

2) Deception? Nah I just meant they make 1 more than they say... Still pretty cool info no? Anyone knows if they actually stamp the last serial number or if they stop 1 short? 6000 pieces from 0000 to 5999? That seems unlikely...

3) I've heard that Victorinox will release 2 or 3 more limited runs before the end of the year. "Revisited" versions of existing knives, at least 1 of which in a limited run...
I'm assuming possibly numbered but maybe it's more like that black Alox Classic SD they did not so long ago. I'm hoping it's more on the lines of the Carbon CyberTool M they did this year...
Does anyone have any info on that? The person couldn't give me any details or clues beyond that so I'm assuming that person was not counting the Alox Hunter Pro that's due to come out soon.

4) Starting now they're going to be way more strict about limited editions:
-1 purchase per person
-no more setting 1 aside for people, you want one you go and get one while they have them. Even if this becomes like Apple stores on new iPhone release dates...

If they make 6001, but Karl keeps one, there's still 6000 units released, which is what they claim.

An Alox Huntsman? That would be even cooler than the Hunter Pro imho!

Were allowed some wild guessing about what the other 2-3 releases will be though Who knows... We may see Alox 91mm or 111mm or even 130mm :D

Great info Syem. Thanks for sharing. :hatsoff:

I suspected about '0000' and know you confirm it.

It's a pity that they go strict on giving only 1 piece/person. This will apart me from buying as many of them don't arrive to Spain. This situation is generated by re-sellers ... It's only three days since the Special edition with a coin was released and it can be found in websites like evilbay but really overpriced.

About the new limited editions releases till the end of the year... I know about two of them.

Sportsman Christmas edition (not numbered)

Chinese year of the Pig huntsman numbered (8888 +1) Or "angry birds' pig knife" :D
(note: I didn't meant to offend anyone with this comment)

The third edition could be, as the last two years, one knife for the give away "make a wish" Victorinox do the week before Christmas (and of course also for selling it), as you mentioned, last year was a black Alox Classic with a lanyard. I don't know which model this year will be.

It's great that you have a flag store so close. I'm red of envy ^^

I like that Xmas Sportsman, koke.

My favourite scenario for LE SAKs is for them to go to people (kids, most likely) who just use them, not knowing or caring about their provenance.

Did a search in the Swiss Army Knights forum, this was the only quick reference I could find.  Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.
That Year of the Pig Huntsman is available on Massdrop for $74.99, which is $30 less than some other sites I found.
Only issue is that you have to sign up to even see the offer.
Please swat me down if this kind of talk is verboten.
