Italian Army Knife
on: September 15, 2018, 07:05:42 PM
Hello everyone.
Today I found this knife in a closet at my grandma. Can someone tell me something about it? I think it could be my father’s one, more than my grandpa one. No stamps on the blade nor the tool
Thank you

Interesting old knife.  Any markings on the tang of the blade?

I didn’t find any stamp on the knife. The only thing is this crest of the army I guess. I will ask on an Italian group. Will let you know ;

Hey, nice find!
You're right about it being an Italian Army standard issue knife.
Technically called "coltello tattico" (tactical knife), this is the latest version of three, with the original being a clone of the British Royal Navy rigging knife, a little bigger, with black crest-less handles and with sheepsfoot blade, can opener/sail cutter, marlinspike on the backside and straight SD (that metal tab on the pivot end).
The crest on the side is the inter-army crest (army, navy, aviation).

It has been used by italian soldiers since after WWII, but they switched to this third variation in the '80s.  :salute:

Thanks a lot,
I searched a bit and it really seems like that. It’s just weird because my father was born in 1951, so can’t be his one I guess. My brother was also in the army as volunteer but he went in 2010, and I guess at that time they already stopped distributing it.
It seemed way older, maybe because it’s not stainless steel and was really dirty
