Million bucks is not all that much these days so I suppose I couldn't go all crazy (though it is still more than I am likely to make in my whole life).

So a house of my own does not sound to stupid.

Maybe I would quit my job an go to study physics. I always wondered if I would find it more interesting than what I do now. Though if I know myself at all, I would grow bored of that too. 

If you owned your house and kept your costs down though getting bored of physics wouldn't be that terrible would it? You could always do a nice easy job to keep a bit of cash coming in while you find what really excites you.

That is true. While you can't go all crazy with that amount of money it does give you quite a bit of time for deciding what to do next.

I chose a million dollars and not, say, 30 million because I wanted it to be somewhat challenging to choose what to do with it. It really does not buy as much as some people think for sure.
