Which model do you have more than one?
on: September 21, 2018, 02:01:47 AM
Because you like the model, or because you use it so often, for back up, or for just sheer love of having it, do you have any model of Victorinox that you own more than one?

In my case, I have two of SWISSTOOL X model. One I use, and carry with me. The other one is just kept as backup. I got the 2nd one just because I like the model.

I have 4 Pioneer X.  Well 5 if you count the Urban Pioneer mod I bought before Victorinox did scissors at the factory.  Two are still pretty much NIB.  The others get carried daily.

I have more than one of many models, so it's easier for me to say which ones I tend to have the most of.
Not in any particular order:

Camper
SwissChamp
Vagabond
MiniChamp
Classic - mainly to get their scales off of them to put onto MiniChamps and Vagabonds
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

I have 3 x swisstool spirits: 1 plus kit in each car and a spirit x at home

I have 3 x pioneers: 1 is my edc and two as backups (2 because I found them on sale fairly cheap)

2 x OHT: one in an emergency bag in each car

2 x Farmers: 1 x user for camping, 1 backup

Only one now I'd got rid of all my other duplicates - I have two Pioneers.  But it's ok, because they're different colours - one is black with a black shield, the other is black with a red shield. ;)

I have a handful of climbers.... perhaps it's time for me to share the love and give a few away. 3 spartans I plan to keep, all extras I sell. I need a spare pioneer (other than my shelf queen limited edition berry red.... a spare user is what I need). I Think I have a backup explorer, but I should check. And I'm not sure yet if I desire a backup German army/standard one handed trekker. I do like it, but i find myself pocketing other knives so much more often. It just lives on my search vest and doesn't see too much action since I usually have a knife in my pocket anyway.

Two Wenger SI's - Because it's the one I would hate to lose. I EDC the '04 and the other one is a '97 to give to my daughter some day as her BY SAK (unless I lose the '04  :D)

Aside from Classics, the only Swiss knife that I saw fit to get multiples of is the Wenger Traveller. I'm currently selling off some of the surplus ones, but still keeping three versions, plus a modified version which adds Phillips and carabiner.

I do have two versions of the Pocket Tool Chest, a stainless one and a Evo88 but one of those is a donor. I also have a NIB Spirit RT which is a backup to an X.

In non-Swiss items, I have a second Leatherman Sideclip and Byrd Tern

Great stuff.

I have not used my swisstool for a while due to the plier was not able to do my last job. I used the gerbet mp600 instead.

But my interest on swisstool returned when I had to file my acoustic guitar bridge before gluing it to the body. The swisstool x has the best file, long, very agressive so effective to the job.

So I am back using the swisstool x and bought another one to take turns in carrying. I thought That was mad thing to do. Buying exact same tool when I have the same one in good condition? But maybe it is natural thing to do? If one like the model so muchr use it often, then as backup or just for taking in turns? It is cool?

Having the same tool in duplicate for me is simple, I trust the tool and wanted a second.  The second tool can be a back up.  My Swisschamps for example, one is in my camp gear.  One is on my hike pack.  I didn't want to keep taking the tool back and forth between gear.  My Swisstools, one lives in my vehicle and one lives in my garage.  My Spirits, one lives in my camp pack while one get used at home or work.

Its natural for me to get a second tool of the ones I really like/trust.

When I first began with MTs and SAKs I only had one MT and one SAK.  As I began to settle on the ones I liked best I acquired duplicates.  Those duplicates like I mentioned above were so I didn't have to take a tool out of my work gear ( for example ) to use it for camping or hiking or at home.  I would designate a role and leave that tool there.  My most trusted tools generally have a few roles.  Work, off days, home, camping, hiking.  While I don't use the same tools for each activity some do cross over.

Its super cool to have a backup.  Whether its simply for security sake or to lessen the wear of your most used tool.  Heck even if you are just keeping a duplicate for the sake of collecting.

Like most of us I have multiples of several models like Spartan's, Classics, Esquires ect. When buy sell and trade SAK's that happens.

The models that I have made sure and gone out of my way to have multiples of would be Soldier/OHT and Pocket tool chest.

These are the SAK's I use the most and dread not having one of so I have spares.

Two OC Pioneers (one heirloom that's in reallly nice shape, one beater I bought from a member here for EDC), as well as a 1993 Soldier (same tool load)

Two Tourists, both 1980s era with no scale tools, or lanyard ring and with ad inlays--one advertising hydraulic rescue tool maker Holmatro, the other once advertised SwissAir, but the scales were in bad shape (and in risk of losing the inlay) but now bears nylon scales with tweezers and toothpick.
Classic and family--at least half a dozen. Four Classics (SD and standard), two Bijous (one is horn, other is plain red), two Companions (red Hannover town hall tourist knife and blue Westinghouse ad)and Executive (basically a Victoria-era Companion without keyring)
Two "Spartans", one near modern production (from El Corkscrew's giveaway here some time ago) and one from the early '70s (more likely than not, a Camper or Standard) with clip point pen blade, Victoria stamp on main blade, key ring, and no scale tools.

But what about the same name, but different tool loads?

Three "Craftsmen"--mid 1970s with scaler, late '80s with pliers (I ended up breaking it up for parts), and a 1960s Artisan (also called a Craftman in some catalogs), which for those of you not familiar, it's more or less, an 84mm Fieldmaster.

None.

I have about a dozen Swiss Army Knives, but no duplicates. While I did purchase three Explorers, I gave two away as gifts.

Unless we get into Leathermans, in which case I have four PSTII 's and a couple of PST's among all my dozen or so of my Leathermans. But I digress...

No duplicate SAKs
