Oversharpened blade - Victorinox repair center
on: September 21, 2018, 04:58:26 PM
Hey all,

I did a search, so forgive me if this specific question has been asked in the past. I recently acquired an alox pioneer that is in great shape, except for its blade – it has been woefully sharpened at some point in the past.

I’m thinking about “beaming it back to the mothership” for repair work. Hoping that Vic will just replace the blade with a new one. This obviously falls outside the category of warranty work, so I’m expecting to incur additional repair fees.

Has anyone dealt with an oversharpened blade by sending it back to the Victorinox repair center? Did you get hit with additional charges over the customary $5?

So many thanks. Happy Friday everyone!

I think that Victorinox USA has to send them to Switzerland for repairs involving taking the SAK apart.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

What is that spring? It is only a single length with no fold in the middle like every SAK scissor spring I have seen before. Is that the way they used to make them?

I learn new stuff every day hanging out on this forum with you guys. Granted, I only ever learn new things about Swiss Army Knives here. But someday all this SAK knowledge will have to come in handy, right??

Reporting back!

Got the knife back soon than I had anticipated. Vic reprofiled the blade instead of totally replacing it - they did a nice job. See pics:

I sent my old angler to change the sheet. Through a local store Since I am friendly with the seller he told me that he sent it. But without hurry. He would simply give the knife to the victorinox traveler when he came to his store and it would be repaired when he sent him ordered merchandise. Thus there were no shipping costs. In the end I do not charge anything for changing the sheet. But I'm buying all my saks there. In gratitude for the repair of what I consider "my razor", I bought a blue limited edition pioneer. Then we continue with those of the other years, but that is another story. Keep in mind that you can change the stamp of the sheet.
