Black EOD Wire Cutter Inserts??
on: September 21, 2018, 08:29:38 PM
Curse this forum!!!
Local hardware store had a big sale so I couldn’t resist buying the stainless steel with shiny finish Rebar.

Now I’m trying to buy extra sets of the replaceable wire cutters and found a store that would sell the black EOD wire cutters even cheaper than the regular shiny replaceable ones.

Anyone know if they will fit and have the same hardness, sharpness, etc. ?

Googlefu is weak today and no I am not a bomb speSmurfpillst 😜

The Rebar and the ST300 use the same insert.

Thank you Steve. I just want to make sure I phrased my question correctly.

There are 2 types of replaceable wire cutters (WC).
1 type is the shiny finish that per websites would fit the shiny Rebar and  shiny ST 300

The 2nd type is the black oxide EOD WC that would only fit the black EOD ST and black EOD MUT

So essentially per websites the WC inserts fit like to like. Meaning shiny to shiny and black to black

I’m wondering if the black WC meant for EOD (detonation) can be used for the shiny Rebar.

Will it fit and will it still do the job.
Thanks Sir!!

AFAIK the only difference is colour, not size or hardness...

There would be no reason for the hardness to be any different.

On Leatherman's web site, only one set of replaceable wire cutter is listed, with the choice of SS or Black.

The replaceable wire cutters regardless of color is useable on all LM MTs with them on the plier heads.

So you should be good with the Black.  May look cool with the contrast to the SS pliers :ahhh

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I understand what u mean. I have both. I will switch them around to see if they fits. I think I have read somewhere that they are not interchangeable. This I want to find out too.

Thanks Sam!!!

As far as I can tell Leatherman sells 3 types of the inserts. The regular in black oxide and stainless steel finish and BO EOD.

I’m interested in getting the EOD insert but my Rebar is just a regular Rebar, not an EOD tool.

Yes those are the 3 types. I just tried.. No go. See the pics. They will not fit properly right out of box. Their shapes are different. U could probably grind it down to roughly the same shape, but thats too much hassle and u still risk them not sitting properly and what's holding them may just be the screw.. I wouldn't do it. I had the same thought before cos I prefers the cutter on the EOD.. Looks to be a great cutter of soft wires without the hard wire cutting notch.

Nah.. Who would have thought LM would make something so similar but yet so different.. Its a small detail that will be missed unless someone physically do it..  but on one hand I did hope that they are the same though..

No worries Dutch Tooler, even the Leatherman rep said they were interchangeable. But I had doubts that the company would be so unethical as to charge extra for a part by changing just the name but function and fit was the same for similar part. Just didn’t make sense.

I guess Sam knows more than Leatherman  :woohoo:

That's crazy :ahhh I would have that all of them would have been the same ??? Well I guess now we know :salute: :tu:

Add that to the list of minor differences I guess
