And there is the shame!

I Google almost everything (unless I have a lexicon at hand) but Google slip out of my mind and instead I went directly to MTO.. But I got my answer and I'm happy, a bit confused that I didn't search before I asked but happy..

Thanks guys!

If you're allergic to shrimp or crab, you might want to pass.

But.... everything is edible at least once. And you've got to die of something. Let it be worth a laugh.  :dunno:

Not for me!  :ahhh

I have eaten a cricket salad once at the local Bug Lab ages ago when I was in University. That wasn't all that bad. However, I draw the line at eating arachnids.  :dwts:

One of the best loved "snacks" in Portugal:

The small ones are boiled with herbs and seasoning.

The larger ones (escargot size) are grilled and eaten with spicy butter sauce.

No, it's not just a small business. We eat some tons every year.

I tried snails in France. With all the garlic that is all you actually taste. That and the crunchy texture.  :D

I didn't. There seems to be something crunchy in the foot muscle or something like that. I don't know.

Ps: In the spirit of general derailment on MTO: I think snails would make great source of animal protein for space colonisation. They don't need a lot of energy input. They don't need a lot of care. They don't spread human diseases. And they don't helplessly float around in zero G...  :D

Snails have always struck me as a lot of work for not a lot of meat.

I think fish would be a option for food in space. As far as I know they have been testing how fish survive in space (inside the ISS obviously) for a while now. Life forms that depend on gravity aren’t a great option for space because the muscles and bones need that gravity to develop properly. Fish on the other hand are somewhat used to a lack of gravity due to their aquatic habitat. As far as I know, fish are a top contender for not being effected by the lack of gravity in space. Now if that translates to being used as a viable food source I have no idea.

Just one (stupid) mans opinion.

What about lab grown meat?
Raising livestock seems way impractical (in space, but it’s rapidly getting that way on earth), due to how inefficient it is... I struggle to imagine a more inefficient way of getting food than livestock in general.
