This must be a turnip for the books
When I was a wee boy, we didn’t have pumpkins, but we had turnips. One year, feeling I was missing out, I hollowed out a turnip with a spoon…. a… spoon! Anyway, I carved a face in it, stuck in a candle and put the top back on. The candle dehydrated and eventually started to burn the top… the resulting stench which filled the house at dinner time was not unlike a ripe dog fart.

When I were a lad we had an onion....and....and.... we had to share it with all the other kids that lived in the same ditch at the side of the road. Luxury. Every our dad would make us plant a field of root vegetables, grow them and harvest them and carve them with a SAK made from cheese before we went to school .....Thanks for the Wise Words there Fuzzy. In fairness I haven't lit them for long but maybe the Odour De Dog Flatus helps to keep malevolent spirits (well everybody probably) away from the house?
