You don't put jam on your toast before you put the butter on.  Why on earth would you put the jam on a scone first? :o

For those who are not Scandinavian and don't know what surströmming is.....it is literally rotten fish!

Is it worse than Lutefisk? That's fatty fish in lye.

Fat + lye = soap.

Fish soap. And you're supposed to eat it.

I spent enough of my childhood with a bar of soap in my mouth. Ain't doing it as a grown up. Particularly not if it's fishy.
Well, look at it this way.
Surströmming is banned on airplanes, due to the smell.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Here’s an absolute must try,
Chili with cornbread on a little oven safe dish,
Very easy, only takes 5min to make, another 20 to bake, and of course a good 10 to cool off!

Here’s another unique setup, the Mrs watched it on a cook show,
Again very simple, and very easy, just layer it in the crockpot and let it do the work.

Try the same thing with a mac and cheese topping or a savory sweet potato topping!

You aren't eating at the right places.  Check out Zabak's for schwarma and falafel. I work with one of the owners.  His mom and dad have been making schwarma in Houston for decades. Check out Shanghai River for old school white tablecloth Chinese.  Greek food? Check out Greek Fest on Montose next weekend. Entry on Friday at lunch is free.  I will be there eating gyros and Greek ice cream topped with baklava.

There is a bar here in town that has a little grilled sandwich called "escombro" which translates to "rubble" It's made by taking a little panini type roll, and putting all the little bits of ham, chorizo, etc that the slicing machine collects and then grilling in a panini press... it really is something else.

Another favourite is the "bola de pimiento" which is a ball of bechamel sauce mixed with ground beef and shredded roasted red bell pepper which is battered and then deep fried. It's somewhere between the size of a tennis ball and golf ball.

Both are in different bars... it's common here for each bar to have a house speciality pinchos and you have smaller drinks available so you can go from bar to bar without having to down a pint or waiting long.

San Sebastian (1h drive north) has the best variety/quality of pinchos I've ever had. Really a worthwhile place to visit if you love all sorts of food.

- Migas
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migas

There are several variations of 'Migas' here in the States, mostly influenced by Tex-Mex cuisine. But I make a hybrid Spanish-Mexican style with old bread, sausage, onions, peppers, and eggs. Not really true to either tradition, but it is a tasty dish. Let's call it 'Nix's Montana Migas'!  :D

or better yet, Montana Nix's Migas (M-N-Ms for short, like M&Ms  :D), but I admit having seen several variations of the theme depending on country or region, "Migas" are almost universal.  :dunno:

I also forgot about "Tapas", another all-time classic Spanish food and also "Jamón Ibérico" and other types of ham obtained from porks fed with the most exquisite Acorns   :tu:

Ok, I gotta ask, who’s a licorice lover? I’ve always loved twizzlers (strawberry not cherry) and one day we were at the mall and stopped in a candy store, I saw their brand so I had to try, yet then saw Australian and was very curious, and had to try, theirs was as hard as a rock but the Australian was so soft and sooo flavorful! I was hooked! The one lady in Human Resources was also a twizzler lover and I told her she had to try it and she was shocked, needless to say I went in to see her the next day and her office was loaded, not with her twizzlers but the Australian! Only problem is it’s so expensive. So since we moved I ended up going back but I was wondering who likes what, and I know we have a few Australians on here..

American licorice is too sweet for me, but I like Aussie and Danish licorice. We used to have a shop nearby that stoked 100 different licorices from around the world, but it closed recently and I've been going through withdrawal.....
