Multi-tools used in Dude You're Screwed

Concept: One member of the team gets ambushed and searched for contraband (items they carry and hope to sneak by the others).
He is then taken to a remote location, given some items that may or may not come in handy, and to win the "Game" as they call it, he has to reach civilization within 100 hours.
To be honest, this is a bit hard to swallow. Certainly most of it has to be scripted. The ambush part takes the first five minutes of the episode, and I cannot wait for it to end. Does the member not know that he will be abducted? Can you really take someone to another country, and sometimes another continent, and just dump them in the middle of nowhere?
I do not know how much of it is scripted, and how much is "real". Still, there is no conflict between members. No pointless arguing and manufactured drama. Kind of like Dirty Rotten Survival, but only one member is challenged in each episode, and he is put in a survival situation. In any case, I am here for the multi-tools and SAKs. There are some laughs and MacGyverisms along the way, which make it easier to watch.

very cool!
That premise, though, seems a bit odd?

It is what it is. Still, it is much better than having two guys arguing about every single little thing.

A small traditional folder. Hidden in his belt's secret pocket.
With it, he cut open his shoelace (550 cord), where he had a small ferro rod.

He also scraped the ferro rod with it, got some willow bark for tea, and spread lipstick on cotton for fire-starter.
From what I saw, this has at least two blades.

I enjoy the show as well, but over here it's called "Survive That", and I agree that the ambush part always looks staged, and I'm always happy when that part of the show is over.
I saw the one with Tom Moore a couple of days ago, and when he pulled that file out of his boots it made me wonder how he managed to walk with that thing under his foot, it's not like he pulled it out of his sock, on the side of his lower legg or anything, it looked as it came out of the bottom of the boot, from under his foot ...

And that wraps up this series.
It's not a bad watch, but some episodes can be quite boring, like the one with Chris. And of course every episode wastes its first five minutes with a yawn-inducing sequence, of no entertainment value, survival or otherwise. All it does is undermine the credibility of the episode and series as a whole. In a few instances the host-to-be manages to outsmart the rest of the team, and has to surrender willingly to them, because they still have to film an episode. Not only does this take the excitement out of this section, it reduces it to nothing but a waste of airtime. And the confiscation of contraband, such a silly notion. Do members really walk around with hatchets duct taped on their backs and multi-tools tucked between their legs for days, until they get kidnapped? That section was also questionable. Thankfully some items of interest to this forum "make it through", so no hard feelings.
This series sees survival experts get abandoned in various environments, with little gear. And not only does it waste time doing so, it also sets an arbitrary time limit to the matter.
The cast members watching their buddy participate in this "Game", as they call it, often meddle very actively with the surroundings and gear of the contestant, in an attempt to hinder their progress. The decision to make this a survival game show of this nature is awkward. Being aware of the time limit, the 'contestant' makes decisions that contradict the norm, in order to win the 'Game'. Some members of the team seem more interested in having their friend fail the game, through confiscating gear, providing joke items, sabotaging gear, or tricking them into taking the wrong direction.
I am a fan of Matt Graham and John Hudson, and they're always worth a watch. I cannot say I am a big fan of the show. There are a lot of things I do not care for in this, but having watched all episodes, I managed to find enjoyment in their various survival techniques. There are also some moments of comradery, like watching a friend make it through a cold night, a team member sneaking a knife to a contestant without the others knowing, or simply have them cheer, when a friend manages to overcome an obstacle and get closer to winning the Game.
I would recommend it, I think. It is certainly interesting, and you will still get to see many different approaches to survival, thanks to the team's varied survival training, the gear everyone has, and the terrain they're in. The show really shines when John Hudson and Matt Graham are competing. Definitely watch those.
