Does this seem like a really bad idea?

Given what I have been doing for the last 20 years, this sounds like a really bad idea (no I haven't been breaking and entering before anyone says it).

As this lock is Z-wave compatible and the earlier versions of Z-wave were all hacked, only a matter of time. I like the convenience of some smart home features but this is 'heck no'.

Indeed, that seems like a bad idea, Smashie.

Weeeell even ordinary non-electronic locks can be ‘hacked’, aka, ‘picked’ fairly easily with the know-how.  :-\ Or so I hear.
(I’ve been meaning to learn, for, um, scientific purposes. :D )
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Not a high quality lock.

Just like high quality electronic locks can't be hacked just like that either.

I can see uses for this system, but not for shopping...

Imagine an elderly person living at home alone. We also provide security systems with panic buttons or man-down alarms to notify a control room or family/neighbours.

Wouldn't it be great if such a system could not only notify people of an emergency, but also provide a temporary code to open the door to the emergency services/neighbours/family?

A) No need to keep a key to the person's place to be kept at hand
- which also means you don't have to rush home to grab a key first

B) No need to hand out keys, so nobody can enter your home before you press the emergency button/trigger the man-down alarm.

Thing is, most people don’t have high quality locks, and they aren’t even aware of them.  ???

Dear Fuzzbucket. Thank you for your recent communication. Before we send your exclusive Waitrose Securo-Lock, please let us know the hours and days that you are not in the house, and the whereabouts of any valuables you own so we can instruct our DBS qualified delivery agents NOT to look for them.

Maybe online Knife/SAK stores should offer this service as well ...

Imagine, you come home after a long grueling day at work, to see that your new Limited Edition Damascus SAK is placed, right there, in the middle of your display cabinet, between all your other precious SAKs ...  :dd:

More likely you will come home after a long grueling day at work, only to find your display cabinet empty ...  ::)
