Day 02 :

This awl is nice and sharp, almost a third blade. When it seems reasonable, I like using the awl in lieu of a knife blade, just to save the knives' edges for more delicate work. Opened up a package for Mrs Nix.

That’s a good ideal on the awl, and I hate getting that glue residual from the tape on the main blade. Will give that a try! :tu:

A Huntsman will fit into a pocket caddy:

 :pok:

 :dd:

... yeah, and I just saw there are lots of colour options available too  :tu:
But what's that Navy Camouflage about?
Does the Navy need a saw?
Anyways, I like it  :D

Though, this has to wait a bit  :-\

Nice start to the Huntsman Challenge. Coming straight out of the Spirit Challenge this will be very interesting and I had got to the point of really wanting a normal SAK in my pocket. But I've been out and about for a couple of days so I've only managed to pick up my Huntsman this evening.

And I've picked up a Navy Camouflage Huntsman. Normally I really don't do camo but the idea of a wood saw on the open waves is so spectacularly mad I just had to get myself one for the Challenge.

And here we are opening some post Day One
Now I have to check out this Navy camo!

I love it. And like I say I can't explain why Tony

So here's Day 2

You're right Nix, early next year for a Swisschamp challenge! :D. I did one earlier this year, and really like the knife, but I found I had to really get creative to put each tool to use.  My Huntsman did everything I needed for all those years.   In my mind, it's very close to the ideal multitool.

Went to Dillard’s and shorts were being blown out at $5.99, so I went with 2 pairs!

We found some fun after all!  First, we got a bag of feed for the Sheepdogs and I used the small blade to cut the box open.  From the time I was a stockboy in the mid 80's, I have always used the small blade to open boxes to keep from damaging the contents inside.  Next, while taking the dogs out for a walk, I came across a branch that had grown in our path.  I think I went over 20 years before I used that saw, but once I did I've used it all the time!  Lastly, I used the caplifter for a refresher!

Day 1. I just got it by UPS (after staring at the GPS tracking all morning excitedly as it made its way here) and I'm already putting it to good use. After mostly carrying a Tourist over the past several months, I forgot just how much I liked 4-layer knives. They're just the right size for a comfortable grip. For several years, my only real SAK was the Huntsman's brother, the Fieldmaster.  Throw in the fact the Huntsman can carry the little driver, and I've got everything I need. Nothing I seldom use.

First was using the scissors and pen blade for opening bags to a TV Ears system for my grandfather. Didn't photograph that.

Second, was using the large blade cutting up the cardboard mailer the knife came in. Those I really can't reuse, unlike boxes, so they get cut up and trashed.

Third was using the cap lifter/large screwdriver to hold a keyring open to put keys to new storm doors on the keyrings. I've got to have a copy made for my keys, along with the new lock for the regular door.   That and remove all the keys to doors, locks, farm equipment, etc. no longer in use. Even I've got a couple from old locks on my toolbox that have to go since I changed to something actually tamper-proof and hard to pick.

Then, using the multipurpose hook, removed the 9V battery out of a smoke detector in order to change the battery. No photo there, either.

Opened up some other blades I'd bought that came in the mail.   The Opinel DIY I bought to replace the soft steel Antonini in my tool bag (that's a similar "Cable Master" type pattern), but will likely end up carrying the Opinel as a work knife.   The Clauss floral knives I bought for beaters, and are really nice. They're sharp and do really good detail work. The blade's just a bit thin for my tastes.  Now I can end my love/hate affair with the box cutter.

Day 2

I couldn't take pictures during the day because photography is prohibited where I'm working for a few more days but I loaned my Huntsman to a technician to trim some gaffers tape that was preventing some cables from being a trip hazard.  Have to settle for a posed shot from after I got home.

That's a pretty good summary Barry why the Huntsman is close to perfect. Work, rest and play all in one neat package.

Today I've picked up some dry cleaning and the scissors removed the plastic bag covering. I'm off down the fen shortly to clear another path so I'm sure the saw will help me. But I don't want to feed my new Navy Camo to the mire so I'm taking my Jelly Red instead. At least if I drop that I have a chance of spotting it !
