Problems with invasive (?) adverts.
on: October 06, 2018, 10:13:59 PM
For the last 24 hours or so, MTO has been misbehaving on my phone.

A page will start to load, then lock up and freeze the browser. Closing and restarting the browser THEN clearing cookies is enough to get things back moving for a while, but a few times I have had to reboot my phone completely.

The page is locking up right before an advert loads, but because the advert is never quite loading, I can't tell you what that the problematic/invasive adverts are...  ::) Clearing cookies and logging back in doesn't fix it without a reboot of browser or phone, but using a browser with an adblocker doesn't have any of these problems... so whatever the issue is, it's obviously advert based.

This isn't happening to me with any other website or forum - although once the issue strikes, I can't view anything else without rebooting the browser and/or phone.

I don't know if there's anything that can be done "in-house", or if any changes were made yesterday, I just wanted to alert you as to the problem.

Whatever it was, it seems to be fixed, since all has been fine for the last half hour or so ...

It's a Blackberry, so none of the well known ones. Two show ads, and they're both getting hung up (but only here), and the one that blocks ads works fine. No probs elsewhere, so it's not the browser.

AFAIK, nothing has changed for us, so it must be something Google has been messing around with.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

Most likely, because I’m running off of an Iphone (Safari) and everything is fine

OK, thanks Micah  :salute:

The regular BlackBerry browser now won't load more than three consecutive MTO pages without locking up, so I'm being forced to use an a free browser for phone use. I know this doesn't help the forum in terms of revenue, but neither does not being able to view it with ads. Of the laptop still behaves, ads will be shown when I view the forum on there.

Passport. I've been a BlackBerry user for several years, and I think this was the was the last model before they started getting infested with Google (android). So it'll probably be back to dumb phones for me when this eventually gives up the ghost.

Ah. Yeah, I'm irreversibly hooked on the physical keyboard. Never had any smartphone that wasn't a BB (Torch was my favorite), and I have a KeyONE now. The Android thing is a bit of a double-edged sword; wider range of apps, but you are indeed cursed with Google crap.

Anyway, hope you figure it out. I don't have any ideas.

They're the only smart phones i've had too - well, apart from a Nokia Windows phone, but I aborted on that after two days - and yes, the proper keyboard is part of that. Apps don't interest me that much, as most of them are just another way to farm data from you from what I can tell, which is my gripe with the others. I want a phone, not a tracking device.
