‘51 Soldier screw driver

Can anyone tell me what the circular cut on the screw driver is used for? I see on the earlier models the screw driver was solid. Thanks

That did cross my mind but I think its too large. I’m thinking it might be something for the rifle when you service it.  :popcorn:
