Liner vs. Slide Lock comparison thread.
on: October 16, 2018, 04:16:52 PM
I would really like to see some comparison's between old slide lock's and thier new liner lock incarnations. So if you have both the old slide and the new liner of a particular model let's see some comparison's.
Jeep the SAK of the auto world or is it SAK the Jeep of the Knife world?

Not a true comparison as the liner lock Nomad here has the corkscrew in place of the slide lock Adventurers phillips screwdriver. Physical differences apart from the locking are the size of the cap lifter, the awl eye, the main blade length and the opener layer appears to be fractionally thinner.

I don't think the question was talking about OHO liner locks.

Let me clarify my request. I'm looking for slide lock's compared to the current liner lock incarnations. Example would be slide lock Outrider vs. liner lock Outrider.  Sorry if there was any confusion.

The only significant difference between the two is the position of the blade in a three or more layer knife.

@Fred, Rapidray and Woodsduck (... and awl  ;)  )
Even though the models are slighly different - These pics give a great overview of the differences between slide and liner.

The Wiki was recently updated with all the 2017 slide to liner changes

We don't have too many comparision shots - But there is one on the Fireman page:

I think LeaF has put some of his great pics in the gallery - So we should update the pages
Also see his fantastic WorkChamp thread linked above

Can I use the pics in this thread folks   ???

If you're talking about picture with slide-lock and liner-lock variations of Fireman, - it's not related to the "great 2017 update" - these variations were produced much earlier.

P.S. Feel free to use my pictures on SAKWiki

One major difference is the higher weight.
Got several identical toolsets in liner and slidelock, the later is usually much lighter.
Have to get the weight measured when I am home again, workchamp is too heavy for my pocket now.

I guess each model is the same weight heavier - As the upgraded components are the same for each model - ie Thicker opener/awl layer and tools - Different liner for lock

Just thinking about this - Maybe not true - As the rivets are wider for the L-L - So a little extra pin weight the wider the model  !!
- Although what you gain in the rivets you lose in a wider rivet hole      Hmmmm
Other than that I wonder of the tools and liners are the same  for the L-L vs S-L - I am assuming they are the same!

SAKWIKI  says the Skipper  is 30g heavier
http://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Skipper
We did not put the statistic comparisons in for all the models - But the Skipper does have them - Although please feel free to update other models folks !!

There's also one of Leaf's nice comparison shots on that page

EDIT PS: Thanks for the OKs to use the photos
