Elinox and scale replacement
on: October 19, 2018, 02:01:56 PM
Hi all,
I have just bought an Elinox Standard (I think) - see pictures attached...
Any ideas on date? I was thinking around 1973ish...

I wondered what people thought about replacing the scales with new cellidor ones, as the existing scales are pretty beat up.
This also mean being able to add in T&T.

Photos are from the seller as it hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks in advance

Seems a shame to replace the original scales on the old girl. Maybe try polishing out the scratches, or selling it to someone named Fred.......wait!

I normally would have voted to keep the original scales, but if it were mine the scrawls would drive me nuts.  What a shame that someone had to deface this knife.  Hopefully it was a child who didn't know better.  Anyway, I'd have to replace these scales, but I'd look for a set that didn't have the scale tools to keep the original Standard look as much as possible.

Side thought:  shouldn't this knife have a grooved corkscrew?

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd say contact Victorinox. Maybe they can recover the scales, so as to keep the original shield.

Second vote for a little polishing.  Be careful on the front scale near the shield.

No. The Elinox/economy line moved to corkscrews without grooves around 1973.

If I go down the polishing /recovery route, they look like nylon scales so how is best to go about it?
